Summary

The role will involve observing the children at play, planning activities that will challenge them based on their interests and assessing their development. Parental partnership is at the forefront of the role and you will contribute regularly in updates to families as well as recording snapshots of each child’s learning journey through Tapestry.

Work

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

What you’ll do at work

Attend to the personal, social and physical needs of pupils including toileting, assisting with feeding, dressing and undressing pupils (nappy changing).

Under the direct supervision of the teacher or other staff, assist individual or groups of pupils in the classroom and ensure their safety and well being.

Relay pupil care information to teaching staff for updating of schools records.

Provide input into the planning and evaluation of learning activities for individuals and groups of pupils to enable the teaching staff to make informed decisions when developing their plans.

Supervise the activities of individuals or groups of pupils both in and out of the classroom (including educational visits) to ensure their safety and facilitate their physical and emotional development in accordance with the school’s behaviour management policy.

Monitor the individual pupil’s progress, achievement and development, of those children you are directly responsible for, as directed by the teacher, and report these to the teaching staff/line manager.

Prepare and maintain learning equipment and ensure that the classroom is kept clean and tidy.

Display and present the pupils' work, under the direction of teaching staff, so that it enhances the classroom environment and celebrates achievement.

Ensure the safety of pupils during the lunchtime period; taking into account pupil ages, disability and behaviour. Ensure application of the school behaviour policy during this period, referring serious issues to the Midday Supervisor where applicable.

Attend staff and other meetings and participate in staff training development work and staff reviews as required.

  • Support babies and young children through a range of transitions.e.g moving onto school, moving house or the birth of a sibling
  • Recognise when a child is in danger, at risk of serious harm or abuse and explain the procedures to be followed to protect them. Types of abuse including: domestic, neglect , physical, emotional, and sexual abuse.
  • Identify risks and hazards in the work setting and during off site visits.relating to both children and staff
  • Demonstrate skills and understanding for the prevention and control of infection, including hand washing, food preparation and hygiene, dealing with spillages safely, safe disposal of waste, using correct personal protective equipment.
  • Use equipment, furniture and materials safely, following the manufacturers’ instructions and setting’s requirements.
  • Encourage children to be aware of personal safety and the safety of others and develop personal hygiene practices (including oral hygiene).
  • Promote health and wellbeing in settings by encouraging babies and young children to consume healthy and balanced meals, snacks and drinks appropriate for their age and be physically active through planned and spontaneous activity throughout the day, both indoors and outdoors.
  • Carry out respectful care routines appropriate to the development, stage, dignity and needs of the child, including eating (feeding and weaning/complimentary feeding), nappy changing procedures, potty/toilet training, care of skin, teeth and hair and rest and sleep provision.
  • Communicate with all children in ways that will be understood, including verbal and non-verbal communication.
  • Extend children’s development and learning through verbal and non-verbal communication.
  • Encourage babies and young children to use a range of communication methods.
  • Use a range of communication methods to exchange information with children and adults.

    Cheshire College will enrol the learner onto an Apprenticeship Early Years Practioner Standard Level 2 with Level 1 Functional Skills embedded if required.

    Training schedule has yet to be agreed. Details will be made available at a later date.

    About this company

    We are a term time Nursery open between 8:45 and 3:15 for children aged 2-4. The children in our nursery learn through a range of adult led group sessions and carefully planned continuous provision activities.
