Summary

An exciting opportunity to join the family at Hewigo as a Stainless Steel Sheetmetal Worker/Welder. The role will include: shearing, notching, bending, rolling, CNC H-Brake operating, fibre laser operating, marking out, drilling, riveting, TIG & MIG welding, grinding, machine polishing and assembly.

Monday to Friday, between 8:00 - 16:30. You will have a 15 minute break at 10:00 and a 30 minute lunch at 13:00.

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you’ll do at work

The apprentice would be training and working as part of a small team of experienced sheet metal workers in Oldbury.

The apprentice's role would include:

  • Manual handling
  • Shearing.
  • Notching.
  • Bending.
  • Forming
  • Rolling.
  • CNC H-Brake operating.
  • CNC Fibre laser operating.
  • Plasma cutting.
  • Oxyfuel brazing.
  • Solidworks drawing/design (sheetmetal).
  • Marking out.
  • Pattern development.
  • Drilling.
  • Riveting.
  • TIG & MIG welding.
  • Grinding.
  • Machine polishing.
  • Assembly.

Training

Engineering operative (level 2)

Equal to GCSE

Your training plan

  • The apprentice will be required to attend Advance 2 Campus, Dudley College, 1 day per week in term time only.
  • You will be assigned an assessor who will visit you in the workplace every 8 weeks to support you in achieving your qualification.
  • Upon successful completion of your apprenticeship, you will receive an Engineering Operative - Fabrication & Welding Level 2 qualification.

Essential qualifications

GCSE in:

  • English (grade D/3/Level 1 Functional Skills)
  • Maths (grade D/3/Level 1 Functional Skills)
