This fantastic opportunity has arisen to work within our accounting practice providing key administrative services for staff and clients and assisting with statutory accounts and other services for a client base of 500 clients. Operating individually and as part of a team to ensure service levels are achieved within the department.

The rate of pay will be the apprenticeship rate initially; the rate of pay may be negotiable depending upon experience. The rate of pay may increase this will be subject to meeting work place and apprenticeship targets.

Work
Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
What you’ll do at work
The role will involve learning all aspects of accounting techniques and principles whilst in due course helping business owners by producing accurate and timely management information.
- To assist the bookkeeping team with the preparation of VAT return and bookkeeping
- Operating individually and as part of a team to ensure service levels are achieved within the department
- Input of data in preparation of accounts
- Entering financial data onto internal systems with a high level of accuracy and speed
- Working with various databases to extract and manipulate information
- Produce reports as and when required
- Answering the telephone in a professional and helpful manner
- Typing correspondence by e-mail and letter
- Administrative duties as and when required
- Use Microsoft Packages in particular Xero, Word & Excel
- Assisting all members of the team as and when required
- Assist accountants with their duties
- Booking in client records
- Preparation of monthly bookkeeping
- Preparation of VAT returns
- The person will become an important part of the team over time
The above is not an exhaustive list of duties and you will be expected to perform different tasks as necessitated by the organisation which is relevant to your post within the company to meet the overall business objectives.
As part of your contract of employment completion of the Apprenticeship Training Programme forms part of your duties as well as helping your personal and professional development; the requirements to complete the programme are as follows:
- Attend and be punctual for all timetabled induction, lessons and all work-based training/support sessions
- Complete all required assignments by the required timeline
- Build up your portfolio of evidence on-going during your apprenticeship programme
- Access support from your tutor/assessor and your manager as and when required

- Use the organisation’s standard tools and processes to examine data to identify transactional issues such as, reconciliations and inconsistencies between invoices.
- Recognise and rectify routine errors, escalating as necessary.
- Plan and review accounting and finance tasks.
- Communicate with stakeholders to deliver accurate and timely results, avoiding jargon, using language tailored to the audience and different media methods with an appreciation of the risks and benefits to the business of social media and other digital applications.
- Use finance and accounting software packages to accurately input and manage data to contribute to routine accounting tasks.
- Handle data and digital technology in line with cyber and data security requirements, using data securely and safely, including backing up data.

Your training plan
The Accounts/Finance Assistant is responsible for assisting the team of accountants with accounting duties. These can vary massively depending on the team structure and size of business.
An Accounts/Finance Assistant’s work could include basic bookkeeping activities, working with sales and purchase ledgers, running calculations to ensure that records and payments are correct, recording of cash and data entry.
Accounts/Finance Assistants can work in almost any sector. Potential employers include corporate businesses, sole traders, partnerships, Public Sector, not-for-profit organisations and educational institutions. Accounts/Finance Assistants may work inhouse for an organisation or they might work for accountancy firm, bookkeeping practice, Shared Service provider, self-employed or on behalf of several different clients.

We will be delivering the industry recognised AAT (Association of Accounting Technician) Certificate in Accounting Level 2 as part of this apprenticeship standard.
This qualification comprises four mandatory units:
- Introduction to Bookkeeping
- Principles of Bookkeeping Controls
- Principles of Costing
- The Business Environment
You will be required to attend Kirklees College, The Waterfront, Huddersfield one day per week throughout this apprenticeship programme.

GCSE in:
- Maths and English (grade 4/C or above or equivilent)
