Join us to have fun, laughter, singing and learning as a normal part of every day. We will also consider applicants already qualified at level 2 for a level 3 apprenticeship.

Nursery is open 7.00am - 6.00pm, Monday - Friday. You will work on a shift pattern between these hours. On Thursdays you will attend training. The apprentice would be working up to 36hrs per week (including 6hrs training day).

Work
Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
What you’ll do at work
- Implementing policies and procedures to ensure the welfare requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage Statutory Framework are met.
- Assist in the planning of appropriate experiences for children, in line with Sunny Day Nurseries’ core practices to meet the learning and development requirements of the EYFS Statutory Framework.
- Participate in Sunny Day Nurseries’ policy on planning, assessment, recording and reporting, in line with the requirements of the EYFS Statutory Framework.
- Take on the role of key person for a designated group of children when deemed appropriate.
- Assist in providing effective liaison with parents on a day-to-day basis regarding the welfare, learning and development of the children in the designated section.
- Take shared responsibility for standards of safety, security, hygiene, cleanliness and tidiness throughout the nursery.
- Maintain the highest level of cleanliness and hygiene in sleeping, nappy changing, food preparation and service areas.
- Take shared responsibility for the care, maintenance and security of all equipment and toys within the nursery.
- Participate in the nursery’s performance management review process and access any necessary meetings, training, or professional development.
- Comply with all Sunny Day Nurseries’ policies and procedures at all times.
- Treat all staff, children and parents with courtesy and kindness at all times.
- Undertake any other duties as agreed with the Nursery Manager/Deputy.

- Support babies and young children through a range of transitions.e.g moving onto school, moving house or the birth of a sibling
- Recognise when a child is in danger, at risk of serious harm or abuse and explain the procedures to be followed to protect them. Types of abuse including: domestic, neglect , physical, emotional, and sexual abuse.
- Identify risks and hazards in the work setting and during off site visits.relating to both children and staff
- Demonstrate skills and understanding for the prevention and control of infection, including hand washing, food preparation and hygiene, dealing with spillages safely, safe disposal of waste, using correct personal protective equipment.
- Use equipment, furniture and materials safely, following the manufacturers’ instructions and setting’s requirements.
- Encourage children to be aware of personal safety and the safety of others and develop personal hygiene practices (including oral hygiene).
- Promote health and wellbeing in settings by encouraging babies and young children to consume healthy and balanced meals, snacks and drinks appropriate for their age and be physically active through planned and spontaneous activity throughout the day, both indoors and outdoors.
- Carry out respectful care routines appropriate to the development, stage, dignity and needs of the child, including eating (feeding and weaning/complimentary feeding), nappy changing procedures, potty/toilet training, care of skin, teeth and hair and rest and sleep provision.
- Communicate with all children in ways that will be understood, including verbal and non-verbal communication.
- Extend children’s development and learning through verbal and non-verbal communication.
- Encourage babies and young children to use a range of communication methods.
- Use a range of communication methods to exchange information with children and adults.
- Work with colleagues to identify and plan enabling environments, activities (both indoors and outdoors), play opportunities and educational programmes (both adult led and child initiated) to support children’s holistic development through a range of play, creativity, social development and learning.

Your training plan
The training is delivered on Thursdays during term time by our training provider who is based in Dorchester. On the days when you are working in setting you will be learning on the job from highly trained and experienced early years educators. At the end of the apprenticeship you will have a Level 2 Early Years Practitioner qualification. English and maths qualifications form a mandatory part of all apprenticeships and must be completed before an apprentice can pass through gateway.
