XCO2 Energy Limited is offering an exciting opportunity for a Level 6 Apprenticeship in Building Services Design Engineering. This apprenticeship is a opportunity for a Hackney resident to join our growing team and contribute to our ongoing work with Hackney Council, as well as numerous other exciting projects we are working on.

Work
Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
What you’ll do at work
- Develop engineering solutions for buildings in compliance and accordance with Building Regulations and industry standards, in collaboration with architects and wider design teams.
- Carry out detailed mechanical, electrical and public health design calculations.
- Maintaining well documented project files including calculations, drawings, meeting notes etc.
- Producing engineering services drawings (2D/3D) utilising industry standard software such as AutoCAD and Revit and BIM (Building Information Modelling).
- Work alongside manufacturers to size and select plants
- Assist with compiling RIBA design stage engineering services reports and specifications.
- Analyse energy models to assist with producing sustainable designs.
- Accompany senior engineers at design team and Client meetings.
- Shadow engineers on site visits as and when appropriate to further your understanding of the design optimisation and physical installation of designed services.
- Provide administrative assistance on projects within the wider team such as producing equipment schedules.Assist in the design and development of energy-efficient building services systems for a range of projects.
- Participate in Continued Professional Development (CPDs) and training sessions.
- Awareness of Health & Safety in the construction industry.
- Develop an understanding of Low and Zero Carbon Technologies and their applicability.

- Apply engineering principles to solve broadly defined engineering problems and contribute to continuous improvement: scientific, theoretical, and technical principles.
- Apply building services engineering techniques, procedures and methods, review and evaluate the results, including when measuring and testing, designing, installing, commissioning, maintaining or operating building services engineering systems or improving the performance of building services engineering components and systems.
- Employ mathematical, statistical and data interpretation tools, using analytical and computational methods, and apply an integrated or systems-based approach.
- Identify, interpret, and compare information in relation to materials, components or parts used in building services engineering.
- Research, collect, select and evaluate technical literature and other sources of data and information to address, analyse and evaluate building services engineering problems.
- Produce building services engineering technical solutions in accordance with relevant industry standards, policies, codes of practice, regulations, and legislation.
- Select and apply computational and analytical techniques to model building services engineering problems, recognising the limitations of the techniques employed.

Your training plan
- Based at a successful, friendly low carbon environmental and building services consultancy, based in a beautiful central London office.
- At least 30 hours per week including time spent training/studying for relevant qualification. Day release to University once a week during term time.

- As part of our engineering team, you will gain hands-on experience in designing sustainable and energy-efficient mechanical, electrical and public health solutions for a variety of building projects.
- Through working closely with experienced engineers and sustainability consultants, you will gain key knowledge and skills in designing building services solutions such as heating, ventilation and lighting, bringing buildings to life and helping support the local community and the wider built environment.
- Training at work and education provided through this apprenticeship over 5 years will contribute to the successful candidate achieving a Level 6 BEng in Building Services Design Engineering and Incorporated Engineer (IEng) accreditation with Chartered Institute of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE), thus kick-starting your career in the construction industry and building services engineering.
Requirements
Essential qualifications
GCSE in:
- 5 GCSEs (grade (A*-C) or (Grade 9-4))
Desirable qualifications
T Level in:
- Construction: Design, Surveying and Planning (grade Merit or above)
BTEC in:
- Level 3 Extended Diploma DDM in an Engineering sub (grade minimum of merit in Mathematic)
- National Diploma D*D* in an Engineering subject a (grade minimum of merit in Mathematic)
