Summary

As an Apprentice, you will play a hands-on role in the assembly, wiring & fitting our full range of Air Handling Units. This is a fantastic opportunity to gain practical engineering experience while working alongside a highly skilled and supportive team.

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you’ll do at work

The Apprentice Fitter pathway will be tailored to the business and apprentices’ aptitude to either be Mechanically or Electrically biased. This will be discussed with all potential candidates during the interview process. A predefined pathway is set for each apprentice allowing them to gain experience in a number of supporting functions with the view of providing a strong foundation of knowledge preparing the apprentice for a long and successful career.

Communicate daily with the Team Leader to achieve the departments and personal objectives set
Assemble, wire and fit components under supervision
Follow all Health & Safety policies, including PPE use, COSHH regulations, manual handling, safe isolation, and waste management
Work from technical documentation such as drawings, schematics, layouts, and job specifications to ensure high-quality results
Assist in quality checking and testing of equipment, including both non-live and live testing procedures
Collaborate in small workshop teams to solve real-world problems and contribute ideas for process improvements
Use a variety of hand tools and portable equipment safely and effectively
Follow the apprentice pathway working in numerous departments within the business
Trained to use machinery including CNC, Press Break, Guillotine, Glue Machine, Foam Fill and Gasket Machine
Advise team Leader of training needs and all matters including Health & Safety
Assist team in achieving continuous improvement
Also performs other related duties as assigned and requested

Reading, interpreting and understanding the component or assembly specification, diagrams, drawings and work instructions.
Planning component or assembly task – materials, tools and equipment.
Preparing work area for component or assembly task; sourcing required resources, tools and equipment.
Carry out relevant planning and preparation activities before commencing work activity and know how to source required resources and interpret detailed drawings, specifications and job instructions.
Checking tools during and after task completion; identifying and reporting defects.
Measuring and testing, checking or inspecting component or assembly for example; use of micrometers, verniers, multimeters, voltmeter.
Problem solving; analysing the issue and fixing the issue where appropriate.
Applying improvement techniques; recommending or implementing solutions where appropriate.
Communicating with colleagues or customers (internal or external).
Completing component or assembly documentation for example job instructions, drawings, quality control documentation.
Reporting work outcomes or issues.
Restoring the work area on completion of the activity; returning any resources and consumables to the appropriate location and house-keeping.
Disposing of waste in accordance with waste streams; re-cycling, re-using where appropriate.
Operating within limits of responsibility.
Operating in line with quality, health and safety and environmental policy and procedures; identifying risks and hazards and identifying control measures where applicable.
