We are a leading provider of high-quality fire doors and passive fire protection solutions. As part of our growth, we are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Apprentice Joiner (age 18+) to join our team. This role is ideal for someone looking to develop practical skills in joinery while working with a company that is passionate in what it does.

Wage

£19,656 a year

Rate of pay shown is for 42 hours per week at £9 per hour. Hourly rate will rise to £10 per hour in year 2 (NMW for age 19+). There will be an opportunity to work overtime on a Friday when you are not at college.

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you’ll do at work

As an Apprentice Joiner, you will work closely with our experienced team to develop essential joinery skills, with a focus on the installation and maintenance of fire doors. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to start a rewarding career in the fire protection industry.

The role will involve working a 40-46 hour week over 4 days, Monday to Thursday. While some of the jobs will be local, there will be a requirement to work away nationally.  Holistic Fire Safety operate and provide services nationwide.

This position offers the chance to gain hands-on experience on client sites, working in small teams alongside fully qualified joiners.  Full training and support will be provided.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assisting with the installation of fire doors to industry standards
    Learning to read technical drawings and specifications
  • Measuring, cutting, and assembling timber components with precision
  • Using hand tools and machinery safely and effectively
  • Supporting experienced joiners with on-site installations
    Ensuring work areas are kept safe, clean and organised
  • Following all health and safety procedures

Requirements:

  • Enthusiasm for learning and developing new skills
  • A strong work ethic and a positive attitude
  • Good communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to follow instructions and pay close attention to detail
  • You must be age 18 or over, due to working 10-12 hour shifts and working away from home
  • You must be able to travel to and from Barton-upon-Humber without using public transport

Basic understanding of hand tools (desirable but not essential).

Commitment to completing an NVQ or relevant qualification in joinery.

  • Site carpenter: Apply site second fix techniques and practices for:1. service encasement, 2. cladding 3. wall and floor units and fitments, 4. handrails and spindles to straight flights of stairs, 5. internal and external doors, 6. skirting boards and architrave, 7. window boards.
  • Site carpenter: Apply site carpenter techniques and practices to construction of rafter roofs, including trussed (prefabricated) and traditional (built on site) including the construction of verge, eaves and fitting loft access.
  • Site carpenter: Use and store laser levels for example cross line laser.
  • Site carpenter: Form connections, for example, using joints, nails, screws, bolts and adhesive.
  • Site carpenter: Apply measuring, marking out, cutting (square and angled), mitring, hinging and recessing techniques.

  • You will attend York College on a block release basis (11 weeks at college between September and June)
  • The remainder of your training will take place at the workplace

GCSE in:

Applicants must have a clear DBS (Holistic will pay for this), must be physically fit; a lung function test and hearing test will be conducted. You will be working throughout UK, so overnight stays away from home will be necessary and you must be 18 or over.
