Summary
Trainee industrial automation panel builder, you will work under experienced professionals to learn the skills necessary for assembling and wiring automation control systems. Maintenance of machine tools, hand tools and other manufacturing-related equipment. Working alone and with other team members to carry out manufacturing tasks.

Work
Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
What you’ll do at work
Controls
- Assist in the assembly and wiring of control panels based on technical drawings and specifications
- Learn to read and interpret electrical schematics and wiring diagrams
- Learn to program and configure PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers)
- Help in the installation of components, including switches, relays, and circuit breakers.
- Pneumatic systems installation, such as rams and pipes and magnahelic pressure gauges.
- Participate in testing and troubleshooting of control panels
- Maintain a clean and organised workspace
Engineering Operative
- Following a production schedule using loading lists
- Operate machinery to cut and form metal parts of varying thickness and length
- Moving raw materials to the machines
- Breaking out machined parts
- Moving machined parts to their required location
- Maintenance of work equipment
- Checking and changing tools
- Management of scrap material
- Pro-active maintenance of the machines
- Lifting and carrying heavy items
- Programming input with the CPU control unit
- Reading engineering drawings and measuring parts against the loading lists and drawings
