Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you’ll do at work

An exciting opportunity has arisen at Downe Farm Event Centre. This apprenticeship allows you to learn from Tim Cheffings a BHS I instructor and accredited BE coach.

The centre boasts beautiful facilities including Indoor/outdoor schools, full set of Show jumps and a XC course all available to hire.

The role will include plenty of riding. You must be a competent rider to succeed in this application as they work with are fit large competition horses. You have the opportunity to travel and groom at both national/international events for Tim.

Duties to include (but not be limited to):

  • Preparing for shows
  • Grooming at events
  • Mucking out
  • Lunging
  • Riding

This apprenticeship is work based and therefore, practically taught on the yard with all learning done onsite.

Your training plan

All training will be provided on site during your paid working hours. Your day-to-day mentoring will be with your employer, and a combination of online and in person monthly sessions will be held with your Haddon Training Trainer Coach.

If you don't currently have maths & English at pass grade, Haddon Training will work to support you to gain them as part of this programme.

Accommodation is available on site if needed You are welcome to bring your own horse if needed You must be a UK resident or have lived in the EU for over 3 years to apply for this role. The interview will also consist of a trial day at the location

About this company

Tim Cheffings is a professional event rider and trainer based at Downe Farm Event Centre in North Devon and is the winner of the Mark Todd Bridging the Gap Scholarship for 2016. Tim has continued success at both National and International level with his exciting string of talented horses, with career highlights including INTERNATIONAL WINS in the CCI2* at Osberton Young Horse Championships in 2016, as well as winning the CIC2* at Belton International in 2016 and several top 20 placings at International 4 star level, most recently finishing 13th on Gaston in the 6yo horses' first 1* at Hartpury International in 2017 . Tim qualified his own 9 year old Alinero Van Het Scharenberg for CCI4* (now 5*) and the duo impressed on their BURGHLEY debut in 2014. Tim is a sought after BHSI registered instructor, a British Eventing Accredited Coach and mentor for riders at all levels from Pony Club through to Advanced & 4* British Eventing. He is known for his positive, calm approach and is passionate about training horses and riders to enjoy their training and achieve their goals
