Wage

£17,667 for your first year, then could increase depending on your age

Candidates who 'stand-out' and show capabilities are rewarded over the duration of the apprenticeship and beyond. Continuation of Employment at the end of the apprenticeship is guaranteed if the candidate has passed the assessments successfully.

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you’ll do at work

A great opportunity to join a leading Security Systems Integrator, designing, installing, and supporting hi-tech CCTV, access control and security solutions across a wide field of sectors: including industrial; leisure and hotels; town centres; schools and the domestic scene.
The chosen candidate will play a key role within the company offering great workmanship and service to customers.
Furthermore you will be expected to attend various training courses on the different products and services that the company utilises to ensure you are a capable and trained individual within this exciting field.

Fire emergency and security systems technician (level 3)

Course contents

Comply with safety legislation, codes of practice, risk assessments, method statements, safe systems of work and apply control measures.
Complete functionality tests of systems and components during commissioning systems.
Apply and implement system design, planning and installations including additional components to existing systems.
Carry out takeover procedure, diagnose and repair faults.
Operate ICT equipment and systems to store, retrieve, manipulate, transmit or receive digital data and electronic information.
Comply with environmental and sustainability, regulations and standards.
Complete functionality tests of systems and components during handover of systems.
Carries out risk assessments.
Communicate with others verbally for example, internal and external customers, colleagues, and managers using sector specific terminology.
Work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders, as part of a team. Consult and engage with occupants or others who are or could be affected by work (for example vulnerable, older, and disabled people) and respond appropriately.
Communicate with internal and external stakeholders using sector specific terminology through written means.
Plan and install systems cabling.
Carry out maintenance activities on fire detection and alarm systems and their components.
Carry out maintenance activities on intrusion alarm, access control, video surveillance (CCTV) and their components.

Your training plan

Smart Integrated Solutions will provide all Health & Safety training together with a wide variety of applications of job experiences.
Training will be at the Stroud College and will consist of classroom on-site learning in accordance with the disiplines required to carry-out the Security Engineers' role.
Training will be in weekly 'blocks' consisting of seven in the first year. When not at college you will be working out on-site with other Systems Engineers.
At the end of the three years you will gain the Level 3 (equivalent to an A level) Fire, Emergency and Security Systems Engineer (FESS).

Essential qualifications

BTEC or equivalent in:

Electrical or Engineering (grade Level 3)

Other requirements

Ideally the candidate should live in the local area (Calne, Wiltshire, SN11 9PP). The candidate should have a full driving license, (or working towards this). No criminal record (Security vetting to BS7858 will be undertaken on all employees once a conditional offer has been made). Candidates must have Normal Colour Vision.

After this apprenticeship

After the candidate has sucessfully completed the training then considerations for a full-time permanent role is available. This will be based on attainment and aptitude to the job. The plan is to become a skilled integration engineer within the security industry in either the installation, service, or design department.
