Summary

Report to the Operations Manager while also working under the guidance of the Maintenance Engineer to deliver an efficient, effective, and sustainable maintenance service covering all aspects of the Canalside Training Centre. Maintain a safe, healthy, and well-maintained environment for staff and visitors based at our training ground.

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you’ll do at work

The post holder will be required to:

  • Work with the Maintenance Engineer to support the planning, preparation and delivery of property maintenance tasks in accordance with associated regulations and legislation
  • Contribute to maintaining a safe working environment by implementing any necessary control measures, by identifying, mitigating, and reporting risks and hazards, in line with health and safety legislation, and Company policies and procedures.
  • Access and utilise appropriate work plans, job sheets, specifications, drawings/diagrams, information and data sheets, taking into account factors such as regulatory requirements and legislation, performance and quality criteria, efficiency, sustainability, and the need to reduce waste.
  • Select, check, use, and maintain tools, equipment, materials, components, compounds and parts appropriate to the task being undertaken, and handling, positioning, and storing these safely, also clearing and disposing of waste safely on completion of work, and in accordance with codes of practice.
  • Safely isolate electrical, electronic, and emergency systems to enable property maintenance operations to be performed around isolated electrical components, and the reporting of faults as required.
  • Perform fault diagnostics to implement a range of minor reactive and/or responsive plumbing and drainage repairs to a satisfactory conclusion.
  • Carry out preventative and corrective maintenance, minor repairs, and replacement of components within any water, environmental, and energy management systems on site in accordance with current legislation, industry standards, and with the manufacturers requirements.
  • Use carpentry and joinery skills to complete minor repairs and/or refurbishment to fixtures within and around the site, such as doors, windows, frames, and worktops, ensuring associated fixtures and fittings are selected, installed or repaired, and working correctly.
  • Carry out minor plastering repairs using appropriate materials and surface finishing techniques.
  • Carry out remedial painting and decorating works to a range of surfaces, ensuring the appropriate and safe use of compounds, materials, tools, and any other equipment.
  • Carry out minor tiling and flooring activities or repairs using a variety of materials, tools, adhesives, and sealants.
  • Carry out planned, responsive, or temporary repairs to buildings and their immediate surroundings to make buildings safe and secure.
  • Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing and using digital technologies to access, identify, record, and report information, liaise and coordinate with other team members, and provide customer service to internal and external customers.
  • Maintain and develop competence in the property maintenance industry, recognising own levels of competence and when to escalate concerns to others, always adhering to safe working practices.

  • Identify and select the appropriate materials and components for property maintenance tasks, ensuring these are compliant with relevant regulatory requirements and manufacturer's specifications.
  • Comply with statutory health and safety regulations and requirements.
  • Comply with risk assessments, and organise the workplace, to safeguard themselves and the property.
  • Comply with key regulatory and legislative requirements, including building regulations.
  • Uses safe working practices when carrying out property maintenance tasks including the use of PPE, signage, barriers, access equipment and ensuring work area is prepared and reinstated.
