Work
Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
What you’ll do at work
The main functions will be the following, although they are not definitive:
- To register applicants onto the database
- To manage the database with regular contact
- To book viewings by calling the database and property matching, as well as downloading email and web leads, requesting viewings
- Obtaining regular feedback from viewings
- Conduct property viewings
- Prospecting - by calling a database of local property owners with potential property to sell and booking in valuations
- Prospecting - by dropping door-to-door leaflets in specific areas, on roads where we have recently sold and also to properties that have been on the market with other agents or withdrawn from the market
- Various administrative tasks to support the sales team, including printing emailing letters, archiving, filing, preparing window cards and property details, blog and social media management
- Front office - to meet and greet potential clients who come into the office and register their details on the system for sale. Print and hand out brochures to applicants visiting the office
- Take part in the morning sales meetings and diary management for the day
- Adhere to company policies and procedures and use of company systems on the PC and paper forms including any requirements for money laundering and GDPR

- To demonstrate an understanding of the competitive market-place and commerciality of Estate Agency, Innovation, recognising opportunities and referrals.
- To be able to organise and plan work in a flexible manner to ensure tasks are prioritised and completed within agreed timescales. Show effective decision making in order to ensure work and tasks are completed in line with instruction and on time, including the principles of productivity, diary management, prioritising, targets/objectives and to understand task setting.
- To be able to work effectively with internal colleagues and external partners to achieve individual, team and business targets, identify solutions to problems, appreciate the importance of team working, and understand job roles and where they fit within the team. To use appropriate communication and interpersonal skills such as active listening, engagement and managing ambition.
- Know how to manage the relationship with the customer. Know the importance of written, verbal and non-verbal communication (including body language), email, letter, telephone and personal etiquette.
- Appropriate use of social media sites, ie. Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and smartphone applications.
- Effective use of IT equipment and software, including specific sales and lettings packages, phone systems, use of mobile phones, measuring devices, dictation machines, damp meters, touch typing, cameras, PCs/laptops/tablets, multifunction copiers, cloud data systems (and data compliance), safety devices.
- To be able to demonstrate presentation skills, viewing and selling properties, cross selling, lettings and referrals. Standard methods of concluding sales; understanding needs.
- To have an understanding of active listening, active questioning, empathy, handling difficult people and situations, objection handling, public relations and research. To be inquisitive, respectful, polite and know how to take control of a negotiation conversation.
- Be able to apply a range of administrative skills in order to support the range of estate agency activities and related services. An understanding of the importance and use of digital and hardcopy records, including appropriate software packages. Diary management, filing, making and receiving telephone calls.
- Demonstrate both spoken and written ‘business English’ and the difference between internal and external communications etiquette (email, letter, telephone) and numeracy (use of percentages).
Your training plan
- Upon successful passing of the End Point Assessment, the learner will achieve the Level 2 Junior Estate Agent Intermediate. With this qualification, the learner can apply for Associate member of the NAEA at their cost.
- Apprentices need to achieve level 1 English and maths and take the test for level 2 prior to taking their end point assessment.
- Delivery of the programme is 100% remote via Teams and online live workshops. Minimum attendance is 3 sessions per month which facilitates the "off the job" learning.

Other requirements
Ideally, the role requires someone who drives and has their own vehicle. However, someone ready to take their driving test will also be considered. Also, ideally within the Maldon area for easy access to the office location Vacancy may close earlier if suitable candidate secured.
About this company
Co-directors Ryan Holden and Phil Cumbers cut the ribbon and opened their doors for the first time on the 23rd January 2010. Maldon’s newest, and soon to become very successful, estate agent was born. Ryan and Phil quickly established Holden Estate Agents as one of the leading estate agents in the area. As the business grew, a new, bigger and more prominent premises was required. In 2013 a new home was identified, and the nostalgic move was complete.
