Summary

NRS are offering the exciting opportunity for on-site learning in this hands-on role. You will be working with our site maintenance team on conventional and radiological plant systems doing routine maintenance, as well as breakdown and fault finding tasks. We are looking for enthusiastic local talent to develop the nuclear industry of tomorrow.

Wage
£16,205 a year

We offer a starting salary of  £16,205 with opportunities for pay increases as you advance in your apprenticeship.

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you’ll do at work

  • Learn the Ropes: Get hands-on experience working with our expert team in a real-world nuclear setting. You'll learn about the operation and maintenance of plant and equipment, environmental and regulatory requirements, relevant engineering theories and principles and much more. 
  • Work with Experts: Collaborate with seasoned engineers who will mentor and guide you through every step of the process.  
  • Be Hands On: You will be trained in diagnosing and fixing various technical issues, learning the ins and outs of nuclear systems and infrastructure. 
  • Learn while you Earn: You will be following the Government approved Level 3 Maintenance Operations Engineering Technician Apprenticeship Standard. You will be spending a portion of your time studying at Bridgwater and Taunton College. You can also expect on the job training at your allocated NRS site and the kind of practical experience you can’t get in a college based environment.

You will be following the Government approved Level 3 Maintenance Operations Engineering Technician Apprenticeship Standard. You will be spending a portion of your time studying at Bridgwater and Taunton College. You can also expect on the job training at your allocated NRS site and the kind of practical experience you can’t get in a college based environment.

Essential qualifications

GCSE in:

  • English (grade 4)
  • Maths (grade 4)
  • Science (grade 4)

Other in:

  • Any (grade Pass)

Other requirements

You will be required to live within commuting distance of the site. You need to be aged 18 or over on the 4th of August 2025. You will be required to achieve security clearance and hold the right to work in the UK.
