Summary
NRS are offering the exciting opportunity for on-site learning in this hands-on specialist role. You will be learning to operate standard, purpose built and specially designed equipment that has a direct impact on our decommissioning work. Work
Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
What you’ll do at work
- Learn the Ropes: Get hands-on experience working with our expert team in a real-world nuclear setting. You'll learn about the operation of plant systems and equipment and how to operate safely, securely and sustainably
- Work with Experts: Collaborate with seasoned operatives who will mentor and guide you through every step of the process
- Be Hands On: You will be trained to use technical instruments and specifically designed equipment that has direct impact on our decommissioning work. It may involve dismantling and decontaminating plant, as well as retrievals of radioactive waste
- Learn while you Earn: You will be following the Government approved Level 2 Nuclear Operative Apprenticeship Standard. You will be spending a portion of your time studying at Bridgwater & Taunton College in Cannington, Somerset. You can also expect on the job training at your allocated NRS site and the kind of practical experience you can’t get in a college-based environment

You will be following the Government approved Level 2 Nuclear Operative Apprenticeship Standard. You will be spending a portion of your time studying at Bridgwater & Taunton College in Cannington, Somerset. You can also expect on the job training at your allocated NRS site and the kind of practical experience you can’t get in a college-based environment.

Essential qualifications
GCSE in:
- Maths (grade 3)
- Science (grade 3)

Other requirements
You will be required to live within commuting distance of the site. You need to be aged 18 or over on the 4th of August 2025. You will be required to achieve security clearance and hold the right to work in the UK.
