Working as part of our building services teams, potentially working in Healthcare, Defence, Education and commercial sectors, we are now looking for an enthusiastic Trainee Estimator to join our 2025 development programme and help us shape the future.

Work

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

What you’ll do at work

  • Assist in the preparation of cost plans.
  • Undertake detailed takeoff from the tender drawings.
  • Input takeoff into our estimating software.
  • Prepare and issue enquiry documentation to the supply chain.
  • Assist in the analysis and levelling of received quotations.
  • Work with the project team to maximise all opportunities and minimise all risks to achieve the best possible project cost.
  • Aid and assist the senior project estimator/s (both Mechanical and Electrical) to develop the information into a competitive cost estimate.
  • Assist the bidding team with any post-tender negotiations as required.
  • Assist the Project Estimator with the production of the Embodied Carbon Estimate (using our in-house system).

Course contents
  • Health and Safety: Apply health and safety issues to all activities.
  • Sustainability: Demonstrate application of the principles of sustainability.
  • Construction Technology: Assist in the implementation of the most appropriate solutions for construction projects
  • Contracts: Be able to apply different types of contracts to different situations.
  • Procurement: Assist in the selection of and negotiation with specialist contractors for a construction project.
  • Cost control: Assist in the measurement and costing of construction works during a project.
  • Financial reporting: Assist in the preparation of financial reports, cash flow and cost forecasts for a construction project.
  • Administration: Assist in the collection, collation and storage of relevant data and its analysis.

Your training plan

Initially, you will be studying a level 4 qualification in Quantity Surveying at the University of Westminster, with the plan to progress to a level 6 qualification afterwards.

Essential qualifications

GCSE in:

  • 5 subjects, Maths & English grade 4 or above (grade 9 - 5)

A Level in:

  • 3 A-levels or equivalent (grade A-C)
