Summary

Chris Bartholomew electrical contractors Ltd, based in East Hoathly, East Sussex are recruiting for an accounting apprentice who would like to study at Level 2 & progress to Level 3. The role will involve inputting and reviewing data, maintaining a full audit trail, reviewing and maintaining sales, purchase and general ledgers etc.

£17,725.50 a year

The wages will be dependent on age and experience however for those looking to start at Level 2 the minimum salary would be £9.09 per hour and for those looking to start at Level 3 the minimum salary would be £13.02 an hour.

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

As an employer we will teach you how to complete the following tasks:

  • Double entry journals
  • Construction industry - CIS
  • Knowledge of and how to complete and review VAT returns
  • Knowledge of PAYE & pension requirements
  • Advising managers of any outstanding issues
  • Maintain a full audit trail
  • Meet deadlines and time budgets

Course contents
  • Record transactional data.
  • Use the organisation’s standard tools and processes to examine data to identify transactional issues such as, reconciliations and inconsistencies between invoices.
  • Recognise and rectify routine errors, escalating as necessary.
  • Plan and review accounting and finance tasks.
  • Communicate with stakeholders to deliver accurate and timely results, avoiding jargon, using language tailored to the audience and different media methods with an appreciation of the risks and benefits to the business of social media and other digital applications.
  • Use finance and accounting software packages to accurately input and manage data to contribute to routine accounting tasks.
  • Handle data and digital technology in line with cyber and data security requirements, using data securely and safely, including backing up data.

Your training plan

  • You will complete the Level 2 Accounts-Finance Assistant Apprenticeship Standard and on completion will receive a certificate at either grade Pass or Distinction. In addition, you will receive a Level 2 AAT Diploma
  • If you don’t have GCSEs grades C/4 or above or equivalent, you will be required to study Level 1 Functional Skills in maths and English. We will then upskill you to Level 2
  • Day release will be from East Sussex College’s Eastbourne Campus, once a week, term time only. In addition to day-release an assessor will visit the workplace every 10-12 weeks.
  • 6 hours of your working week will be spent on training which you will need to log. Training is anything relevant to the job role and will include day-release to college, meetings with your assessor, your staff induction, being mentored, shadowing other members of staff, training on Sage 50 Accounts and payroll and other supporting systems used, revision for your AAT diploma, mock assessments, putting together your portfolio of evidence and more

GCSE or equivalent in:

  • English Literature or Language and maths (grade 4/C/Level 2 Functional Skills)

Other requirements

- Parking is provided on site but own transport advantageous due to location. - Mobile food van comes to site (most days) or you can bring your own lunch and use the staff kitchen facilities such as microwave and toaster. - Applications are being accepted for the Level 2 Accounts-Finance Assistant Apprenticeship and the Level 3 Assistant Accountant Apprenticeship. A Level 2 AAT Diploma is required to start on Level 3 - Day-release will be from East Sussex College's, Eastbourne campus. You will be required to attend college, once a week, term time only. - There are 24 days paid holiday plus bank holidays, staff refreshments are provided, the AAT membership registration will be paid on behalf of apprentice and there will be an annual wage review. - The start date can be negotiable depending when the right candidate is found.

About this company

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an apprentice to join the small friendly accounts team with an expanding progressive Electrical Contractor near Uckfield. Our main work streams are electrical installations and renewable systems for domestic, public sector and commercial clients. This includes a social housing contract we have secured for the next 15 years with Wealden District Council. The apprenticeship is within our accounts division who are an integral part of our structure. You will be supported by a dedicated accounts manager and the team who work directly within the company. Small friendly office environment with a big company emphasis on ensuring a comfortable happy working environment.
