Summary

As a Tooling Engineer Apprentice, you will develop hands-on skills and technical knowledge in tooling maintenance, modification, and repair. Working closely with experienced engineers, you will gain valuable experience in press tooling, machining, and problem-solving within a high-paced manufacturing environment.

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you’ll do at work

  • Assist in the maintenance, repair, and modification of press tools, ensuring optimal performance and longevity
  • Support tooling engineers in setting up and troubleshooting tooling within the press shop
  • Learn to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications
  • Operate manual and CNC machining equipment to manufacture and modify tooling components
  • Carry out routine inspections to identify tool wear or defects and assist in corrective actions 
  • Work with press shop operators to ensure tooling issues are identified and resolved quickly
  • Participate in problem-solving activities to improve tooling reliability and efficiency
  • Comply with health and safety procedures and maintain a clean and safe working environment
  • Complete all apprenticeship training modules and assessments in line with the programme requirements

  • You will be required to attend the training centre, In-Comm Training Services in Telford, TF3 3AJ, through a part-time pathway to undertake a variety of engineering training and theory work

  • English & maths (grade 4/C and above)
