Work

The role:
- As an Apprentice Fabricator Welder with Fugro, you will carry out instructions and work with tradesmen in the department, Health and safety is our number one priority and the ability to work safety as an individual and as a team is vital.
- You will be an integral part of the team, working in a fast-moving environment in one of the cleanest workshops in the country.
- The role will involve fabrication and welding of all kinds of equipment and ancillary plant, this is an exciting opportunity to work alongside our design engineers, on a variety of innovative projects, new builds and designs, along with learning and developing new skills and working with experienced colleagues.
From our Falmouth Hub, we design, build, and operate bespoke over water drilling equipment and you will have opportunities to gain first-hand experience both in the workshop and field to see our equipment in action to fully understand its purpose and enhance your knowledge.
Who we’re looking for:
- Previous experience or an interest in fabrication and welding is preferred but not essential as full training will be provided.
- We are looking for someone passionate to learn and gain knowledge as a tradesman as you will learn a variety of skills in the workshop.

- Work safely at all times, comply with health & safety legislation, regulations and organisational requirements.
- Comply with environmental legislation, regulations and organisational requirements.
- Obtain, check and use the appropriate documentation (such as job instructions, drawings, quality control documentation).
- Carry out relevant planning and preparation activities before commencing work activity.
- Undertake the work activity using the correct processes, procedures and equipment.
- Carry out the required checks (such as quality, compliance or testing) using the correct procedures, processes and/or equipment.
- Deal promptly and effectively with problems within the limits of their responsibility using approved diagnostic methods and techniques and report those which cannot be resolved to the appropriate personnel.
- Complete any required documentation using the defined recording systems at the appropriate stages of the work activity.
- Restore the work area on completion of the activity and where applicable return any resources and consumables to the appropriate location.
- Identify and follow correct Metal work instructions, specifications, drawing etc.
- Mark out using appropriate tools and techniques.
- Cut and form Metal for the production or maintenance of fabricated products.
- Produce and assemble Metal products to required specification and quality requirements.
- Identify and follow correct joining instructions, specifications, drawing etc.
- Carry out the relevant preparation before starting the joining fabrication activity.
- Set up, check, adjust and use joining and related equipment.
- Weld joints in accordance with approved welding procedures and quality requirements.

Your training plan
- You will be working towards a Level 3 Metal Fabricator apprenticeship standard.
- You will need to attend Cornwall College Camborne one day per week.
- You will receive on and off the job training and support from an assessor and your employer.

Other requirements
Previous apprentices have won local & national awards and are coached and encouraged to become future leaders within the business. Future career progression through the business. Previous experience or interest in any of the areas is preferred but not essential as full training will be provided by us and the College. Apprentices are taken out of there comfort zone and we see how they adapt and work under pressure when we feel the time is right.
