Summary

Due to continued growth they are now looking to employ 1 apprentice. The successful individuals will get the opportunity to work for an established employer and become a multi disciplined Fire and Security engineer.

Wage

£15,704 to £25,396.80, depending on your age

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you’ll do at work

Energ.b. Was formed by Graham Bampton in 1992 as an electrical/electronics systems contractors with the repair and maintenance of door entry and access control systems making up a large percentage of the business.

In the mid 1990’s Graham’s sons Nick and Darren became partners in the company bringing to it their individual strengths in sales and technical expertise.

  • You will need excellent communication skills and the ability to work within a team meeting tight deadlines.
  • Initially working with an experienced engineer learning how to install, maintain, service and fault find.
  • You should be committed to developing new skills and gaining knowledge of the industry.
  • The ideal candidate will need to be willing to learn, good communicator and listener. Able to follow instructions.

Course contents
  • Comply with safety legislation, codes of practice, risk assessments, method statements, safe systems of work and apply control measures.
  • Complete functionality tests of systems and components during commissioning systems.
  • Apply and implement system design, planning and installations including additional components to existing systems.
  • Carry out takeover procedure, diagnose and repair faults.
  • Operate ICT equipment and systems to store, retrieve, manipulate, transmit or receive digital data and electronic information.
  • Comply with environmental and sustainability, regulations and standards.
  • Complete functionality tests of systems and components during handover of systems.
  • Carries out risk assessments.
  • Communicate with others verbally for example, internal and external customers, colleagues, and managers using sector specific terminology.
  • Work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders, as part of a team. Consult and engage with occupants or others who are or could be affected by work (for example vulnerable, older, and disabled people) and respond appropriately.
  • Communicate with internal and external stakeholders using sector specific terminology through written means.
  • Plan and install systems cabling.
  • Carry out maintenance activities on fire detection and alarm systems and their components.
  • Carry out maintenance activities on intrusion alarm, access control, video surveillance (CCTV) and their components.

Your training plan

As a Fire & Security Apprentice, your training will include: Examining Fire and Security Systems to locate problems or issues along with recommendations in accordance with British Standards or regulations. Test and service backup batteries for fire and security systems and check programs and verify systems are functional. Diagnose system faults and respond where possible. Mount and fix and Terminate Fire alarm and security systems, to name but a few!

Skills for Security deliver the Level 3 apprenticeship via block release at their Watford training centre. 

You will complete all training tasks allocated during your block release weeks at the training centre and gathering any site evidence needed to supplement your studies.

Complete an annual assessment at the training centre and take part in any additional training courses that the company require you to complete.

Essential qualifications

GCSE or equivalent in:

  • Maths (grade 4)
  • English (grade 4)
