We are looking for a motivated and dedicated individual to join our fabrication team as an Apprentice Piping Technician. This apprenticeship provides a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience and develop the skills necessary for a successful career.

Work
As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.
What you’ll do at work
- Apprentice Piping Technician will learn the required skills and techniques for fabricating, pressure testing, installing and maintaining piping systems on the Humber refinery and its associated facilities. They will learn to interpret technical drawings and work to engineering standards
- The apprentice will need to adhere to strict quality assurance requirements
- The apprentice will work under the guidance of experienced professionals and will be involved in various piping aspects of pumps, turbines, tanks, pressure vessels, gas-fired heaters, and high and low-pressure steam systems on the Humber Refinery and its associated facilities
- They will acquire a knowledge and understanding of engineering practices and principles throughout their apprenticeship

Course contents
- Comply with appropriate health and safety, risk and quality requirements,
- Correctly select and safely use tools and equipment for the fabrication, assembly, installation and decommissioning of pipework components and systems,
- Plan, organise and undertake the fabrication, assembly, installation, maintenance and decommissioning of pipework components and systems,
- Read, interpret and apply engineering drawing information,
- Shape pipework components using hand and power tools to cut, drill, shape and finish components to the required tolerance, specification and standard,
- Assemble and install pipework using the appropriate methods, techniques and equipment in accordance with the specification including welded, threaded, bolted and clamped jointing solutions,
- Ensure the integrity of joints in accordance with specifications, in line with specified quality procedures and to precise tolerances,
- Undertake the testing and inspection of the fabricated and/or installed pipework using the appropriate techniques,
- Work with others and contribute to effective working relationships within an Engineering Construction environment,
- Apply techniques for the temporary or permanent removal of an engineering construction piping related system or component,
- Communicate by keeping others informed about work plans or activities which may affect them and seek assistance from others without causing undue disruption to normal work activities.

About this company
The Humber Refinery is located on the east coast of England in North Lincolnshire, United Kingdom, approximately 180 miles north of London. Humber’s facilities include crude distilling, naphtha reforming, fluid catalytic cracking, hydrodesulfurization, thermal cracking and delayed coking units. The refinery has two coking units with associated calcining plants. Humber is the only coking refinery in the United Kingdom, and a producer of high-quality specialty graphite and anode-grade petroleum cokes. The refinery also produces a high percentage of transportation fuels. Most of the light oils produced by the refinery are distributed to customers in the United Kingdom by pipeline, railcar and truck, while the other refined petroleum products are exported throughout the world. We have a well-established apprenticeship scheme with over 30 apprentices throughout the scheme supported by mentors and a dedicated apprentice committee to ensure the apprentices get the best learning.
