Work
As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.
What you’ll do at work
- Assist in the installation, calibration, and maintenance of instrumentation and control equipment
- Support experienced technicians in troubleshooting and repairing various instruments, including sensors, transmitters, and control valves. Along with specialising in Gas Chromatographs, Emissions Monitors, furnace Oxygen and combustion gas analysers, Fixed Gas Detectors and water quality analysers
- Participate in routine inspections and preventative maintenance activities to ensure equipment reliability and safety
- Document maintenance activities, calibrations, and repairs accurately and comprehensively
- Follow safety protocols and industry regulations to maintain a safe working environment
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to optimize processes and improve system performance

- The apprenticeship follows a 3 year programme, with the first year spent off the job at CATCH in Stallingborough. This would be Monday – Friday 8am – 4pm
- Years 2 and 3 on site at Phillips 66, Humber Refinery, Eastfield Rd, South Killingholme, Immingham DN40 3DS

About this company
The Humber Refinery is located on the east coast of England in North Lincolnshire, United Kingdom, approximately 180 miles north of London. Humber’s facilities include crude distilling, naphtha reforming, fluid catalytic cracking, hydrodesulfurization, thermal cracking and delayed coking units. The refinery has two coking units with associated calcining plants. Humber is the only coking refinery in the United Kingdom, and a producer of high-quality specialty graphite and anode-grade petroleum cokes. The refinery also produces a high percentage of transportation fuels. The majority of the light oils produced by the refinery are distributed to customers in the United Kingdom by pipeline, railcar and truck, while the other refined petroleum products are exported throughout the world.
