Summary

A small, friendly, home-from-home day nursery is looking for an apprentice to join our team working with children aged between 6 months - 5 years old.

Wage

£14,918.80 for your first year, then could increase depending on your age

Salary is reviewed after the first year of studying the apprenticeship. Overtime is paid when attending staff meetings, training days.

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you’ll do at work

The candidate will enjoy spending time with children and helping them grow and learn. Daily learning takes place through play, key persons play and observing their key children to ensure they are learning and getting the best from their early education. Care plans take place, such as nappy changing, bottle-feeding and assisting the children in settling to sleep.
Practitioners will assist in providing a healthy morning and afternoon snack for the children and assist in lunch periods where the children have a packed lunch.

Course contents
  • Recognise when a child or a colleague is in danger or at risk of abuse and act to protect them in line with safeguarding policy and procedure.
  • Apply legislation, policy and procedure to protect the health, safety and wellbeing of children in the setting (for example, food safety, diets, starting solid food, allergies, COSHH, and accidents, injuries, and emergencies).
  • Apply the principles of risk assessment and risk management within documentation and practice.
  • Teach children to develop skills to manage risk and maintain their own and others safety.
  • Use a range of communication methods, including technology, with other professionals to meet the individual needs of the child.
  • Develop and maintain effective professional, collaborative relationships with others involved in the education and care of the child.
  • Undertake the role and responsibilities of key person.
  • Recognise and apply theories of attachment to develop effective relationships with children.
  • Provide sensitive and respectful personal care for children from birth to 5 years.
  • Advocate for all children’s needs, including children which require SEND or EAL support.

  • Support children to develop a positive sense of their own identity and culture.
  • Support children to understand and respond to their emotions and make considered choices about their behaviours.

Your training plan

The Apprentice will have a work mentor as well as attend Cambridge Regional College weekly.

Extra training is provided by the nursery, such as First Aid, Safeguarding, FGM, Prevent, Health and Safety, Fire Safety, E-Safety, Food Hygiene and more. This training is paid for and provided by the nursery.

Essential qualifications

GCSE in:

About this company

Bella's Childcare Ltd registered in 2015. The nursery employs nine members of childcare staff. Of these, seven hold appropriate early years qualifications at level 2 or above. The nursery opens Monday to Friday from 8am until 6pm all year round, apart from one week in August and over the Christmas period. The nursery provides funded early education for two-, three- and four-year-old children and cares for children aged 6 months to 5 years.

After this apprenticeship

Candidates can continue their route in childcare, working in day nurseries to include roles such as Room Leaders, Deputy Manager, Managers.
Candidates can move on to studying further or progress into working in hospitals in neonatal units, community nursery nurses working alongside the community nursing team, social workers, and teachers.
