Summary
Through studying and on-the-job training within an experienced and established team of Engineering Technicians, you’ll be helped to widen your skill set and gain all the experience you need to become a fully skilled professional. You will achieve a Higher National Certificate Civil Engineering qualification, without responsibility for the fees.

Work
Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
What you’ll do at work
- You’ll get to work within an experienced and well-established team of Engineering Technicians, providing Engineering support for a wide variety of Engineering projects across the UK Rail Network, giving you the opportunity to widen your skill set and excel in Civil Engineering. Along with part-time education and internal training throughout the scheme, you’ll upskill yourself in the relevant skills and competencies required for Network Rail.
- Upon completion of the Level 4 qualification, you will be able to use your experience to become a fully effective professional with the opportunity to continue learning and developing, including employer support for application for professional membership of the Institution of Civil Engineers as an Engineering Technician.

After this apprenticeship
- Once you’ve completed the scheme, you’ll have a HNC in Civil Engineering. This will also provide you with the opportunity to apply for professional membership of the Institution of Civil Engineers.
- Our apprentices can go on to secure senior roles within Network Rail and the skills you acquire through your apprenticeship will support your career development.
