Summary

We are looking for up to 5 Apprentice Accounting Technicians to join our Southampton and Winchester offices. We are offering a 15 month level 3 AAT apprenticeship. It is a great opportunity to study across all disciplines of accounting and taxation.

Hours
Monday to Friday, 9.00am to 5.30pm, with a 60 minute unpaid lunch break. Flexible working of the 37.5 hours can be arranged between the hours of 8.00am and 5.30pm. The core hours that everyone must work is between 9.00am and 4.30pm Monday to Friday.

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you’ll do at work

Working across the audit, accounts and tax departments supporting them as appropriate. A typical day or week will include

  • Attending college for your AAT programme on block or day release as appropriate
  • Assisting in the preparation of accounts
  • Dealing with monthly and quarterly bookkeeping on behalf of clients
  • Processing accounting records
  • Preparing VAT returns for review
  • Preparing account reconciliations for review
  • Producing end of year accounts on a bespoke software package
  • Preparing corporation tax returns and computations for review
  • Preparing personal tax returns for review
  • Assisting in the audit process
  • Begin to develop an understanding of generally accepted accounting principles reporting rules, where applicable and financial statement presentation
  • Ensuring personal timesheets are accurate and timely so that budgets and forecasts are met
  • Use computerised accounting software
  • Work closely with the supervisor to obtain and maintain up to date technical knowledge
  • To handle queries from clients as appropriate
  • To maintain interface with clients in order to resolve any technical issues as appropriate
  • Any other duties as requested at a level appropriate to this role

Course contents
  • Assist with the investigation and response to financial information queries.
  • Record and analyse financial data using the organisation’s standard tools and processes.
  • Apply double entry bookkeeping and accounting standards to process financial documents, generate financial statements and report financial information to users of accounts.
  • Assist with production of accurate financial information for the preparation of accounts.
  • Reconcile financial data, such as, preparation of reconciliations or review of reconciliations.
  • Investigate, resolve or escalate transactional queries and errors within their remit as appropriate.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders.
  • Communicate financial information in a way that non-finance stakeholders can interpret and understand.
  • Utilise digital skills to present key financial information using finance and accounting software and applications.
  • Use software packages to assist with basic accounting tasks in line with cyber and data security requirements, using data securely and safely, including backing up data.
  • Communicate using varying approaches and different media methods with an appreciation of the risks and benefits to the business of social media and other digital applications.

  • Training is underken at First Intuition in Southampton on a day release / block release basis

Requirements

Essential qualifications

GCSE or equivalent in:

  • 5 GCSEs including Maths and English (grade 5 and above.)

A Level or equivalent in:

  • Any (grade At least 3 grade B or above)
