Work
As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.
What you’ll do at work
Do you love cooking and are you looking to progress your skills, this is an exciting opportunity to gain a Production Chef Apprenticeship working at Clowance Estate Restaurant.
Duties will include:
- Assist in preparing ingredients for various dishes, from chopping and slicing to marinating and portioning
- Assisting head chef, gaining hands-on experience and refining essential cooking techniques
- Pizza creation (from scratch, including sauce and base) will likely form a large part of the workload, so an interest in that would be beneficial
- Maintain a clean, organised workstation, following hygiene and food safety standards rigorously
- Help with kitchen inventory by preparing ingredients, monitoring stock levels, and informing chefs when supplies are low
- Take on basic cooking tasks, including making sauces, grilling, frying, and assisting with plating
- Participate in regular cleaning duties to ensure all equipment and surfaces are kept spotless
To become an apprentice, you must:
- Be 16 or over
- Not already be in full-time education
As an apprentice you’ll:
- Get paid and receive holiday leave
- Get hands-on experience in a real job.
- Complete assessments during and at the end of your apprenticeship
- Be on a career path with lots of future potential

Course contents
- Check, prepare, assemble, cook, regenerate, hold and present food meeting the needs of the customers and maintaining organisational standards and procedures.
- Use kitchen tools and equipment correctly to produce consistently high quality dishes according to specifications.
- Take responsibility for the cleanliness, organisation and smooth running of the work area.
- Produce dishes to suit individuals’ specific dietary, religious and allergenic needs as required.
- Operate within all regulations, legislation and procedural requirements.
- Complete and maintain documentation to meet current legislative guidelines.
- Use effective methods of communication with all colleagues, managers and customers to promote a positive image of yourself and the organisation.
- Work in a fair and empathetic manner to support team members while offering a quality provision.
- Work to ensure customer expectations are met.
- Work collaboratively to uphold the vision, values and objectives of the organisation.
- Use technology appropriately.
- Maintain quality and consistency in food production by using resources in line with organisations’ financial constraints, style, specifications and ethos.
- Identify own learning style, personal development needs and opportunities and take action to meet those needs.
- Use feedback positively to improve performance.
Your training plan
- Complete a Level 2 Production Chef Apprenticeship Standard
- Have regular one to one sessions with a dedicated trainer either remotely or through visits to your workplace
- Learn and train for a specific job
- Study for at least 20% of your working hours
