Summary

We are pleased to confirm our new apprentice intake for 2025 and we're looking for eight new apprentices to join our company. Your primary role will be to set, operate and program a variety of high precision machines in your area to company quality standards.

Wage

£14,918.80 for your first year, then could increase depending on your age

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you’ll do at work

You will spend time in our in-house training school learning basic machine and hand fitting skills as well as Inspection techniques and CNC machining.

You will then progress onto the works to complete your apprenticeship in the relevant department reporting to the area supervisor.

Tasks include:

  • Basic Programming skills
  • Setting up a machine for small batch work
  • Running machines to complete work efficiently
  • Problem solving
  • Part inspection

Apprenticeships include time away from working for specialist training. You’ll study to gain professional knowledge and skills.

Your training plan

An apprenticeship allows you to earn a wage, gain valuable work experience and industry specific competence. You will be expected to work towards the Level 2 Engineering Operative Standard, with support from your employer and the Chesterfield College Group.

As part of your apprenticeship, and dependent on your prior attainment, you may be required to complete maths and English Functional Skills which is an integral part of your apprenticeship. Upon successful completion you will be awarded additional certificates of recognition for these qualifications.

You will also work towards the below: 

  • Level 2 Certificate in Engineering Operations
  • Level 2 Diploma in Engineering Operations

Requirements

Essential qualifications

GCSE in:

  • English (grade 4/C or above)
  • Maths (grade 4/C or above)

Slack & Parr is a precision engineering company producing high precision components for our global customers. Our manufacturing facility consists of a large machine shop with CNC Lathes, Milling Machines and Grinding machines as well as our own in-house and established Apprentice Training School which has ran an apprenticeship Program since 1968.
