Summary
On our 39 month apprenticeship programme, you will learn the skills to become a successful Powered Access Engineering Technician with a fantastic range of future career options ahead of you. Following successful completion of your apprenticeship, you will be offered a permanent role with one of the best rental equipment providers in the industry.

Work
As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.
What you’ll do at work
On a daily basis, you’ll work within one of our service centres where you will learn to:
- Service and repair a diverse fleet of specialist Powered Access machinery to meet company and manufacturer standards
- Inspect and function test a wide range of equipment
- Assess machines to ensure they meet the correct operational and safety guidelines
- Diagnose and rectify complex electrical, mechanical and hydraulic faults
- Order replacement parts and fit them correctly
- Maintain accurate and comprehensive service and maintenance records
- Develop in-depth product knowledge
- Build excellent working relationships with customers and understand their business needs and requirements
- Become an ambassador for our “Customer First” culture, resolving any issues quickly and keeping your colleagues and customers informed, so they feel truly valued
- Expand your team working skills with your colleagues and the wider Sunbelt Rentals team
- Manage multiple tasks and deadlines as part of a varied workday in a fast-paced operational environment

Lift truck and powered access engineering technician (level 3)

Course contents
- Apply health and safety procedures and safe systems of work in compliance with regulations and standards relevant to lift truck or powered access machines.
- Obtain and interpret lift truck and powered access machine technical data and repair instructions.
- Use tools, workshop equipment, diagnostic and measuring equipment when carrying out maintenance and repairs.
- Perform preventative maintenance activities on lift truck and powered access machines.
- Perform inspections on lift truck and powered access machines in compliance with Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations (LOLER) and Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations (PUWER) regulations.
- Remove and replace mechanical, electrical and hydraulic components.
- Apply diagnostic principles and problem-solving techniques to diagnose faults on lift truck or powered access machine systems.
- Carry out functional testing and quality checks on repaired lift truck or powered access machine components and systems.
- Carry out repairs and make required adjustments.
- Record or enter information - paper based or electronic. For example, job sheets, risk assessments, equipment service records, test results, handover documents and manufacturers' documentation, work sheets, checklists.
- Check and maintain stock.
- Communicate with others verbally for example, colleagues and stakeholders.
- Prepare and maintain a clean, tidy and safe working area.
- Identify, organise and use resources to complete tasks, in compliance with quality, safety, sustainability and environmental standards and guidance.
- Follow equality, diversity and inclusion procedures.
- Store and maintain tools, workshop equipment, diagnostic and measuring equipment for maintenance and repairs.

Your training plan
You will be completing a level 3 Lift Truck and Powered Access Technician Apprenticeship Standard. This will be delivered using a combination of:
- Workplace experience to gain practical skills
- Guidance and training from an experienced workplace mentor
- Industry recognised training leading to an apprenticeship qualification. You will attend residential placements at a training centre and may be required to travel outside your normal working hours
Requirements
Desirable qualifications
GCSE or equivalent in:
- Maths and English (grade 4/C or above)

Other requirements
You will be required to travel independently and attend residential training weeks at college. Travel and accommodation arrangements will be provided by the company.
