Work

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

What you’ll do at work

  • Take apart and rebuild electric motors, pumps, and other rotating machinery, gaining valuable technical skills along the way.
  • Use Specialist Equipment – Get trained on advanced tools like test panels, winding machines, and cranes to carry out repairs and inspections.
  • Precision Engineering – Measure and record build tolerances to identify parts that need repair, developing a keen eye for detail.
  • Work alongside experienced engineers and interact with customers to ensure top-quality service.
  • Learn industry safety standards and best practices, helping to maintain a safe and organised workspace.

Your training plan

Year 1

5 Days a week at Appris Training Centre, Bradford, studying:

  • BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Foundation Competence – Electromechanical Engineering)
  • BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Knowledge – Electrical & Electronic Engineering)
  • Apprentices without level 2 English and maths may need to achieve this level prior to taking the End-Point Assessment
     

Year 2 to Year 4

  • Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Engineering Maintenance: Internal training, development and mentoring with highly skilled engineers in a variety of project and support based areas and other engineering related duties and requirements.

This will meet the Knowledge, Skills and Behaviours (KSBs) required for the apprenticeship. In your 4th Year, you will continue to work towards your occupational competency in engineering and prepare for independent your End-Point Assessment (EPA).
