Work
As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.
What you’ll do at work
- Assisting in the daily control, management, and coordination of site activities
- Keeping a detailed diary of works planned and carried out by sub-contractors
- Ensuring our sub-contractors are working to the latest programme of works, are signed up to the relevant method statements and checking they understand what is required
- Contributing to site progress meetings
- Building positive working relationships with sub-contractors
- Solving issues on site and monitoring risks
- Ensuring health & safety is adhered to, including site inspections, and conducting site inductions.
- Ensuring that all relevant paperwork is received, reviewed and communicated where necessary
- Logging and resolving any defects found and challenge current methodology by putting forward innovative ideas
- You will be involved in all aspects of construction project delivery from concept design, through to construction, commissioning, validation handover and into operation.

Course contents
- Identify risk of activities and encourage all employees to demonstrate safety-conscious behaviours.
- Assess, identify and record the environmental impact of projects.
- Assist in the implementation of the most appropriate solutions for construction projects.
- Use effective management principles and be able to supervise construction workers.
- Understand overall plan for project and measure and record progress against plan.
- Assess and report on quality standards and assist in commissioning of finished construction projects.
- Understand financial and legal constraints and measure and record progress against budget.
Your training plan
Through day release to London South Bank University, Skanska will provide support and funding to help you achieve a Level 4 Construction Site Supervisor qualification
You will work with our experienced team for the remaining 4 days of the week.
Requirements
Essential qualifications
GCSE or equivalent in:
- 5 subjects including Maths and English (grade 9 to 4 or equivalent)
A Level or equivalent in:
- any subject (grade A*- C)
