Summary
The Apprentice Business Analyst will report to the Systems Engineering Manager and will be responsible for supporting the team’s efforts in providing requirements analysis to support product development for customer and R&D projects.

Work
Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
What you’ll do at work
- Requirement Elicitation: Support the elicitation and documentation of requirements for new software features and processes, working with other requirements engineers and internal and external stakeholders
- Document software requirements for use by software developers and testers that capture all customer needs
- Documentation: Prepare and maintain project documentation/artefacts, including business requirements, specifications, process diagrams, and user stories
- Collaborate with software developers and testers and other stakeholders to support product development
- Requirement Gathering: Work with stakeholders to identify, document, and validate business requirements, ensuring they align with business objectives
- Stakeholder Engagement: Communicate with various stakeholders, including Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), technical teams, trainers, and end-users, to understand their needs
- Assist in the maintenance of the software requirements baseline

- Communicate effectively in a variety of situations with a range of stakeholders
- Apply a range of structured investigation techniques to a business situation
- Produce an outline definition of a business situation using an appropriate technique
- Apply appropriate techniques to identify problems and opportunities within a business situation
- Support the identification and presentation of proposed actions to stakeholders in order to gain agreement for further analysis activity
- Apply appropriate techniques to analyse and document options and recommendations for change
- Elicit process information from stakeholders
- Model business processes using relevant techniques, standards, notation and software tools
- Analyse business process models to identify opportunities for improvement
- Produce models of redesigned business processes
- Elicit requirements from stakeholders to identify business and user needs
- Document clear functional and non-functional requirements in line with local standards
- Analyse documented requirements to remove duplication, conflict and overlap
- Prioritise requirements using an appropriate prioritisation approach
- Validate requirements with stakeholders
- Support the establishment of requirements traceability
- Elicit business data needs from relevant sources
- Support the development of simple data models using relevant techniques, standards, notation and software tools

Essential qualifications
GCSE in:

Qualifications in Business/Data Analysis or similar are not essential but an appreciation of software development methods (including the role of software requirements) would be beneficial.
