Work

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

What you’ll do at work

As an Electrical Apprentice, you’ll be helping to fault find and find ways to fix all the electrical issues we have on our sites. You’ll be working on electrical equipment which monitors and controls all aspects of Thames Water’s water and wastewater processes, and how they’re performing across the network.     

During the apprenticeship you’ll become qualified to carry out the following activities:

  • Planned preventative and general maintenance of equipment
  • Modifying and rewiring, testing, and inspecting
  • Condition-based monitoring and fault finding within our systems

Course contents

Your training plan

You will complete the Level 3 Maintenance Operations Engineering Technician Apprenticeship Standard – Electrical Pathway. Included in the programme you will also complete the Level 3 City & Guilds Diploma in Engineering.

We work in partnership with Basingstoke College of Technology who deliver the programme, you will be expected to attend the campus in Basingstoke on a fortnightly basis with the alternate week being virtual delivery, you may also be expected to attend college on block release, we will support your attendance by paying for your accommodation and travel expenses in line with our business expense policy.

Essential qualifications

GCSE or equivalent in:

  • English (grade 4)
  • Maths (grade 4)
