Work
As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.
What you’ll do at work
As an industry leader, we offer a wide range of opportunities for Apprentices to train and build their core consulting and analytical skills. But we will also want to hear your views and help you introduce fresh ways of thinking. Some of the things you’ll be involved in as an actuarial Apprentice are below but remember, our work stretches beyond pensions and that’s where we set ourselves apart.
- Applying actuarial skills and concepts to calculate the value of pension and other benefits for employers and trustees.
- Financial modelling and risk analysis to help clients understand their future pension obligations and principal risks.
- Advising clients on their pensions strategy and how to manage these risks, both on a day-to-day basis and when considering a long-term objective.
- Designing and implementing employee communication programmes.
- Helping clients understand and manage accounting, tax and legislative changes that affect their pension schemes.
- Contributing to proposals for new business opportunities.
- Attending client meetings and explaining the team’s work.
During your apprenticeship, you will get the opportunity to develop analytical skills while observing how we effectively consult for our clients.

Course contents
- Obtain, analyse, model and interpret data to solve actuarial challenges and meet stakeholder objectives.
- Analyse and logically apply actuarial techniques to given requirements and understand actuarial principles and calculations.
- Plan and deliver actuarial tasks such as analysis and calculations within the required timescales.
- Adapt to new requests or unforeseen events to maintain delivery of actuarial tasks.
- Develop and maintain stakeholder relationships through providing a responsive service.
- Identify internal stakeholder requirements and manage expectations as necessary.
- Use digital applications and software to deliver data analysis, data visualisations and mathematical models to assist in actuarial tasks.
- Use digital technologies safely and securely to protect the organisation from risks such as cyber-threats and data breaches.
- Tailor communication techniques for different stakeholders.
- Maintain internal documentation to ensure a clear and identifiable audit trail of decision making and analysis.

Your training plan
More training information
As an Actuarial Apprentice at Isio, you will complete the Actuarial Technician Level 4 Higher Apprenticeship with BPP as the training provider. As part of this apprenticeship, you will complete Actuarial Technician modules in Practical Mathematics and Statistics and Finance and Financial Mathematics.
Requirements
Essential qualifications
GCSE in:
- 5 GCSE's including English and Maths (grade (A*-C/9-4 or equivalent))

After this apprenticeship
After completing the Level 4 Apprenticeship successfully while performing well at work support will be provided to progress to achieving full qualification as an actuary as a Fellow of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries.
