Work

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

What you’ll do at work

Main duties:

Data analysis and modelling:

  • Perform data cleaning to ensure data quality and integrity before analysis and modelling.
  • Ensure data models are accurate, efficient, and meet organisational needs.
  • Collaborate with team members to understand data requirements and implement appropriate data models.

Data visualisation:

  • Create and maintain data visualisations to support business decision-making.
  • Use various data visualisation techniques to present data clearly and understandably.
  • Ensure visualisations are accurate, relevant, and tailored to the audience’s needs.

Correlation analysis:

  • Identify and analyse correlations within datasets to uncover meaningful insights.
  • Understand the benefits of identifying correlations to improve data-driven decisions.
  • Communicate findings from correlation analysis to relevant stakeholders.

Efficient data presentation:

  • Develop and implement efficient data presentation methods.
  • Use best practices in data presentation to enhance understanding and usability.

Timely data reporting:

  • Prepare and deliver data reports in a timely manner.
  • Work with team members to ensure data is collected, processed, and reported efficiently.

Key result areas:

  • An understanding of data collection, data cleaning and data modelling.

  • Understanding the concept of identifying correlations and its benefits.

  • Source and migrate data from already identified different sources.
  • Collect, format and save datasets.
  • Summarise and explain gathered data.
  • Blend data sets from multiple sources and present in format appropriate to the task.
  • Manipulate and link different data sets as required.
  • Use tools and techniques to identify trends and patterns in data.
  • Apply basic statistical methods and algorithms to identify trends and patterns in data.
  • Apply cross checking techniques for identifying faults and data results for data project requirements.
  • Audit data results.
  • Demonstrate the different ways of communicating meaning from data in line with audience requirements.
  • Produce clear and consistent technical documentation using standard organisational templates.
  • Store, manage and distribute in compliance with data security standards and legislation.
  • Explain data and results to different audiences in a way that aids understanding.
  • Review own development needs.
  • Keep up to date with developments in technologies, trends and innovation using a range of sources.
  • Clean data i.e. remove duplicates, typos, duplicate entries, out of date data, parse data (e.g. format telephone numbers according to a national standard) and test and assess confidence in the data and its integrity.
  • Operate as part of a multi-functional team.
  • Prioritise within the context of a project.
