Work

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

What you’ll do at work

Alliott Wingham Chartered Accountants have been established in Fareham, Hampshire for over 75 years. We are a training firm of accountants with recognition from ACCA. As part of a team of 30 colleagues providing accountancy and business services, we are looking for a multi-skilled Accounts & Tax Apprentice to join and support our ever-growing Teams. This role will work on a varied portfolio of clients including high net worth individuals, owner managed businesses, as well as corporate companies.

The Accounts and Tax Assistant Apprentice will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Preparation of self-assessment personal tax returns and related tax calculations for individuals and partnerships, across a wide client base for review by a senior member of staff
  • Correspondence with clients, HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) and third parties as required
  • Preparation and completion of income and expenditure annual accounts for our self-employed clients, for review by a senior member of staff
  • Support and preparation of accounts
  • Provide support to senior members of staff with ad hoc tax advisory projects, primarily across a variety of private client and owner managed business tax issues
  • Provide support in dealing with telephone calls, attendance at client meetings, including taking notes, where required
  • Dealing with day-to-day client and office administration

Course contents
  • Record transactional data.
  • Use the organisation’s standard tools and processes to examine data to identify transactional issues such as, reconciliations and inconsistencies between invoices.
  • Recognise and rectify routine errors, escalating as necessary.
  • Plan and review accounting and finance tasks.
  • Communicate with stakeholders to deliver accurate and timely results, avoiding jargon, using language tailored to the audience and different media methods with an appreciation of the risks and benefits to the business of social media and other digital applications.
  • Use finance and accounting software packages to accurately input and manage data to contribute to routine accounting tasks.
  • Handle data and digital technology in line with cyber and data security requirements, using data securely and safely, including backing up data.

Your training plan

Level 2 Finance/Accounts Assistant Apprenticeship Standard. You will complete a 15-month apprenticeship which includes 1 day per week at the PETA training centre in Cosham. You will be supported every 6-8 weeks with visits from your PETA Learning & Development Coach.

Essential qualifications

GCSE in:

  • English (grade C/4)
  • Maths (grade C/4)
