Work

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

What you’ll do at work

As part of our CMP team you will be suupporting and assisting the project engineers in the delivery of a portfolio of small/medium sized capital projects which includes the following activities. 

  • Managing and delivering a portfolio of mechanical, electrical, civil, control and instrumentation projects with a value of up to £5 million per annum.
  • Working closely with Thames Water operations and our contractor supply chain to scope, specify and cost, quality solutions that are both fit for purpose and value for money. 
  • Actively promote our zero compromise attitudes to health and safety, always striving for continuous improvement.
  • Comply with Health and Safety requirements, ensuring that all projects built and designed comply with the Construction Design and Management Regulations (CDM).
  • Work collaboratively with delivery partners/contractors to ensure that schemes deliver on time, minimising the risk to the business.
  • Drafting, vetting and approving RAMS, pre-construction information, project plans, construction phase H&S plans (CPP) and commissioning plans.
  • Overseeing the commissioning and hand over of the project to the operational client.
  • Ensuring appropriate training has been completed and that completion documents are available and handed over including test certificate and constructed drawings.

Course contents
  • Identify risk of activities and encourage all employees to demonstrate safety-conscious behaviours.
  • Assess, identify and record the environmental impact of projects.
  • Assist in the implementation of the most appropriate solutions for construction projects.
  • Use effective management principles and be able to supervise construction workers.
  • Understand overall plan for project and measure and record progress against plan.
  • Assess and report on quality standards and assist in commissioning of finished construction projects.
  • Understand financial and legal constraints and measure and record progress against budget.

Your training plan

As part of your apprenticeship programme, you’ll study the relevant Certificate of Higher Education through UCEM 1 day a week to gain the theoretical background via virtual delivery

  • Level 4 Construction Site Supervisor Apprenticeship Standard
  • Certificate of Higher Education (CertHE) Construction & Built Environment

Essential qualifications

GCSE or equivalent in:

  • English (grade 4)
  • Maths (grade 4)

A Level or equivalent in:

  • n/a (grade Equivalent 64 UCAS points)
