Summary
Estates Services in-house maintenance team has created an exciting opportunity for a Service and Maintenance Engineer Apprentice. In this role, the apprentice will work as part of a team to deliver efficient, effective and sustainable statutory maintenance service along with providing a reactive and minor works service across the Daresbury estate.

Work
As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.
What you’ll do at work
- Knowledge of health and safety and safe working practices
- Carrying out fault finding, fault diagnosis, de-commissioning, component replacement, testing and re-commissioning of existing industrial and commercial ventilating, heating, water supply, waste (effluent discharge), drainage, and related electrical systems
- Organise work programmes
- Provide good communication with the maintenance team and other departments to ensure high standards of service
- Utilise fault finding and problem-solving techniques
- Deliver a high level of customer service

- Plan, organise, prepare, and secure area of work for setting out and work activities.
- Minimise delays to planned work.
- Amend and replan work activities.
- Prepare and maintain work areas to ensure safe access and egress for self and others.
- Select, use, secure and store hand and power tools, equipment, and components.
- Interpret information from sources such as manufacturer's instructions, drawings, plans, specifications, or previous reports.
- Carry out testing and commissioning of a building services engineering system.
- Carry out decommission of a building services engineering system.
- Undertake planned maintenance activities to building services engineering systems.
- Undertake reactive maintenance activities to building services engineering systems.
- Isolate building service engineering systems.
- Identify and diagnose faults and outline solutions for resolution.
- Replace components.
- Communicate options in writing for repairs, replacements or improvements including the impact of cost, and timescales in writing.
- Handover completed maintenance activities.
- Use information technology and digital systems to monitor and manage the operation of plant and equipment.
- Record or enter information - paper based or electronic.
- Provide internal feedback.

Your training plan
- The apprentice will undertake professional development and training which includes in-person teaching at Salford City College completing the Level 3 Building Services Engineering Service and Maintenance Engineer Apprenticeship
- Building services engineering service and maintenance engineer / Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education
- In your final year, you will undertake an End Point Assessment. The End Point Assessment will include a multiple-choice test, observation and discussion about your portfolio of evidence which demonstrates the skills, knowledge and behaviours of the apprenticeship

Essential qualifications
GCSE in:
- English (grade evidence passes at 9-4 or A*-C)
- Mathematics (grade evidence passes at 9-4 or A*-C)

Other requirements
You will be required to attend Salford City College on a day release basis as part of your training; you must therefore be willing and able to travel independently. Excess travel costs will be covered. STFC are looking for candidates who have achieved or are predicted to achieve GCSE passes at Grade C/4 or above in Maths and English.
