An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Fire & Security Apprentice Engineer at a growing company based in Wigton, Cumbria. The purpose of the role is to carry out the installation and maintenance of Fire Alarm Systems, Intruder Alarms, Analogue & IP CCTV, Access Control and Intercom Systems.

Work
As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.
What you’ll do at work
- Installation & maintenance of Fire Alarm and Security Systems
- Assisting company engineers with their duties
- Confident and polite liaison with company employees and customers
- Completion of all relevant job paperwork
- Handover & Training of systems to customers
- Working to company procedures and following all health & safety guidelines
- Provide outstanding service to customers and building solid working relationships
- Clean and tidy appearance in uniform provided
These duties are not exhaustive and other duties may be required from time to time. It is also anticipated that the duties will progress over time.
Driving licence and access to own vehicle would be preferred but is not essential for the right candidate who is looking to achieve this within an agreed timescale. IT skills would also be desirable.
Probationary period applies.

Course contents
- Comply with safety legislation, codes of practice, risk assessments, method statements, safe systems of work and apply control measures.
- Complete functionality tests of systems and components during commissioning systems.
- Apply and implement system design, planning and installations including additional components to existing systems.
- Carry out takeover procedure, diagnose and repair faults.
- Operate ICT equipment and systems to store, retrieve, manipulate, transmit or receive digital data and electronic information.
- Comply with environmental and sustainability, regulations and standards.
- Complete functionality tests of systems and components during handover of systems.
- Carries out risk assessments.
- Communicate with others verbally for example, internal and external customers, colleagues, and managers using sector specific terminology.
- Work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders, as part of a team. Consult and engage with occupants or others who are or could be affected by work (for example vulnerable, older, and disabled people) and respond appropriately.
- Communicate with internal and external stakeholders using sector specific terminology through written means.
- Plan and install systems cabling.
- Carry out maintenance activities on fire detection and alarm systems and their components.
- Carry out maintenance activities on intrusion alarm, access control, video surveillance (CCTV) and their components.

Other requirements
General site working hours 8am – 4:30pm excluding travelling which will be paid separately per hour. Candidate must be able to get to and from our Wigton based office. Will be required to attend fortnightly day release at Access Training in Team Valley, Gateshead. Employer is going to pay expenses for apprentices to be able to travel to Gateshead fortnightly for apprenticeship training.
