Summary

Level Vale Dental Practice are seeking a hardworking, enthusiastic Dental Nurse apprentice to join their team. The candidate will support in and around the surgery as well as admin duties. This is an excellent opportunity for a smart, ambitious and self-motivated individual to join a friendly environment.

Annual wage: £12,147.20 a year

Training course: Dental nurse (integrated) (level 3)
Hours: Monday - Thursday, between 8:45am - 5:15pm. Friday, 8:45am - 4:00pm. Evening/Saturday shifts as and when required.
36 hours 30 minutes a week

Work

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

What you’ll do at work

Develop competence across a wide range of dental chair side support procedures
Develop knowledge of a wide range of practical treatment procedures and the relevant support necessary to ensure effective outcomes
Develop competence in the manipulation and application of dental materials across a wide range of dental treatment procedures
Develop and demonstrate competence in decontamination and sterilisation of medical and dental devices within clinical and non-clinical environments, ensuring appropriate records are completed
Be responsible as part of the clinical team for care of the patient from arrival to completion of treatment
Other duties as necessary for the efficient operation of the practice (including the duties and tasks of a receptionist as and when required)
Undergo training as may be required to develop skills and abilities
Attend refresher and update training for medical emergencies and CPR
Act in accordance with the practice rules and code of conduct.
Recording of treatment including charting from the dentist’s instructions and other associated clerical work
Preparation of filling materials, impression materials, instruments and equipment
Cleaning away used instruments and materials and keeping the surgery clean and tidy
First aid treatments for collapse e.g coronary attack, fainting, bleeding tooth socket, epilepsy, etc.
Triage of patients attending for emergency treatment
Providing patients with pre and post-operative instructions and information prior to safely discharging the patient following, for example, minor oral surgery and ensuring the instructions are understood
Care and minor maintenance of equipment such as high-speed drills
Maintaining stock levels in surgery and checking expiry dates. Re-ordering stocks when required

Maintain patient confidentiality at all times

Carry out and record maintenance and testing of equipment in line with local policy, procedures and the scope of your own role
Manage and perform effective decontamination and infection control procedures complying with legislative, local and current best practice guidelines
Mix, handle, store and dispose of materials in line with manufacturers recommendations
Create and update accurate and current patient records, including social, medical and dental history, storing and archiving them securely and in line with legislation
Carry out processing of radiographs in line with local procedures and rules
Make effective decisions regarding the safety of patients when taking a radiograph
Deliver appropriate and current evidence-based oral and general health advice
Recognise and support action to deal with medical emergencies
Respond to medical emergencies and be competent in cardiopulmonary resuscitation
Take part in appraisal and ongoing review processes
Take part in continuous professional development activities
Reflect on how your daily practice complies with the General Dental Council requirements for continual improvement
Comply with personal development planning as specified by the General Dental Council
Participate in quality improvement activities as required
Be collaborative and work as part of the team
