Work

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

What you’ll do at work

Duties may include: 

  • Work out what to do from technical drawings
  • Cut and shape materials with hand and machine tools
  • Understand designs for furniture on paper and on computer
  • Estimate the quantity and type of materials needed to assemble items
  • Add parts like brackets, hinges, handles and locks
  • Apply finishes like polishes and varnishes
  • Restore or repair damaged furniture
