Work
As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.
What you’ll do at work
- Recording customer receipts from the bank, cash, cheques and credit card payments on Sage X3 ERP system.
- Creation of Sales Invoices from Delivery Documentation and issuing to customer.
- Creation of Monthly Sales Ledger Statements and issuing to customer.
- Checking creditworthiness of new customers& maintaining Insurance Records and limits of all customers including on X3.
- Daily Credit status checking prior to despatch of goods.
- Chasing overdue payments from customers up to issuing legal letters.
- Answering customer queries/ providing copy invoices etc.
- Identifying and resolving anomalies on Sales & Purchase ledgers.
- Matching purchase invoices to Receipt/ Order and obtaining authorisation/ paperwork.
- Processing Purchase Credit Notes.
- Investigating and resolving purchase invoice queries internally and/or with the supplier.
- Entering purchase invoices and credits to Supplier accounts on Sage X3.
- Creating Purchase payments in Sage X3 & matching payments to invoices on Supplier accounts.
- Assisting in creating regular supplier payment runs and providing forward-looking information about future payments.
- Reconciliation of Supplier Statements to Aged Creditors.
- Creating & posting month-end accounts journals.
- Assisting with the maintenance of Management Accounts reconciliations.
- Developing commercial analysis records & reporting for monthly and annual accounts pack.
- Liaison and assistance with annual audit and with external auditors as required for statutory year-end accounts
- Various duties to support the management of department and directors as required.
- Cross training and administrative duties with stock control, IT and sales departments to provide a rounded understanding of a UK export prientated manufacturing business.

- Assist with the investigation and response to financial information queries.
- Record and analyse financial data using the organisation’s standard tools and processes.
- Apply double entry bookkeeping and accounting standards to process financial documents, generate financial statements and report financial information to users of accounts.
- Assist with production of accurate financial information for the preparation of accounts.
- Reconcile financial data, such as, preparation of reconciliations or review of reconciliations.
- Investigate, resolve or escalate transactional queries and errors within their remit as appropriate.
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders.
- Communicate financial information in a way that non-finance stakeholders can interpret and understand.
- Utilise digital skills to present key financial information using finance and accounting software and applications.
- Use software packages to assist with basic accounting tasks in line with cyber and data security requirements, using data securely and safely, including backing up data.
- Communicate using varying approaches and different media methods with an appreciation of the risks and benefits to the business of social media and other digital applications.

Your training plan
- Working towards completing Level 3 Assistant Accountant Apprenticeship standard.
- Work based learning with attendance at Hertford Regional College once per week to achieve Level 3 AAT diploma.

GCSE in:
