Work
As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.
What you’ll do at work
The day in the life of an Apprentice maintenance engineer will include a range of task which may include services, repair and replacement of our machinery, testing and calibration of equipment, stock management and adhering to health and safety policies.
- Electrical service, repair, replacement of: Motors, sensors, valves, control gear, VSDs, servos, instrumentation, power distribution systems, safety systems etc.
- Mechanical service, repair, replacement of motors, gearboxes, couplings, seals, pumps, valves, hydraulics, pneumatics etc.
- Takes care of the electrical and mechanical settings, documenting them where possible
- Performs certain measurements, adjustments, tests, and calibrations
- Identification and selection of suitable parts and spares for the task. Evaluates the possibility or the necessity of repairing or replacing components
- Works with the Procurement manager to obtain and maintain stock levels and stores accuracy
- Make suggestions and propositions to improve the installations and to increase plant availability, quality, and safety
- Gives technical support to operators
- Supports the projects department in the implementation of new equipment, plant, or services
- Maintain control measurement equipment and weighing equipment
- Respects company policy concerning health and safety during activities
- Organising and undertaking routine checks of equipment, as well as carry out quality inspections. Devising effective maintenance methods and strategy
- Identifying and investigating faults
- Repairing equipment
- Upgrading and modifying systems, monitoring the performance of equipment and systems
- Fitting and calibrating new parts and equipment
- Monitoring maintenance costs, managing stock supplies

Your training plan
This programme is delivered via a day release delivery model which means that one day per week, your attendance is required at our engineering campus. This attendance is required during term time only.
You will experience a blended learning model.
You will gather learning evidence, journals and off-the-job records using your e-portfolio.
At the end of the planned learning period, it will be agreed that you are ready to enter 'Gateway' and for your End Point Assessment to be arranged.
