£16,770 a year

Work

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

What you’ll do at work

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

  • To assist with troubleshooting - fault finding and diagnostics, equipment repair, getting equipment running efficiently
  • To assist with carrying out planned maintenance schedules within a given timescale, record all work carried out and any further action required together with identifying any future spares requirements
  • To assist with machine repair to assembly level - undertake workshop repair of machine components, conversant with circuit diagrams and the use of hand/machine tools, able to use diagnostic and test instrumentation
  • To assist with design and manufacture - identify needs for continuous improvement, carry out design and manufacture from drawing board to installation. Identify energy-saving ideas and report or implement them
  • To assist with reporting and logging of tasks - inputting information into a computerised maintenance system, recording all tasks and storing movements. Keep all machine drawings up to date noting modifications
  • To assist with total preventive maintenance - advise and provide engineering support on TPM initiatives. Assist with complex/safety-related tasks

Your training plan

You will be pursuing a level 3 apprenticeship standard as an Maintenance Operation Engineering Technician . As part of this program, you will attend 3 days per week (in yr 1) at college, and an assessor will conduct on-site observations to evaluate your progress.  

At the conclusion of your program, your qualification will be assessed through an End Point Assessment.

Essential qualifications

GCSE in:

  • at least 2 other subjects (grade 4/C and above)
  • English (grade 4/C and above)
  • Maths (grade 4/C and above)
  • Science (grade 4/C and above)

Other requirements

Ensure I conduct myself safely at all times and comply with all Quality, Health, Safety and Environment (QHSE) Site Rules. To assist with effective and efficient maintenance of all production machines, service plant research and development machines. Ensure all Company Health Safety and Environmental Policies and procedures are practiced and appropriate records are kept. Have a basic awareness of the Company's and own responsibilities in terms of Health, Safety and Environmental. Report all accidents, observations, environmental complaints and uncontrolled releases. Use the correct Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) where necessary. To ensure that all equipment is maintained to a safe standard. Continuously seek ways to improve the safety of equipment. Carry out all tasks in accordance with the Company Health and Safety Policy. Maintain a high level of housekeeping while undertaking all tasks.
