Summary

Cornerways Medical Centre are looking to recruit an Apprentice Patient Services Co-Ordinator. An exciting opportunity for anyone with a desire to have a career in healthcare. You will learn to administer the clinical appointments system on behalf of the doctors and nurses and act as the first point of contact for patients and other visitors.

Work

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

What you’ll do at work

  • To maintain patient records as directed by the Patient Services Manager and defined by standard protocols
  • To deal with telephone enquiries and direct callers appropriately
  • To liaise with the Patient Services Manager and Patient Services colleagues on matters of administration to ensure the efficient and timely operation of the surgery
  • To work closely with the Patient Services Manager to ensure the efficient operation of the Patient Services Office in the handling of all matters concerning patient appointments and records administration
  • To accurately record and confirm patient appointments within the electronic appointment system
  • To ensure that appropriate information is prepared for doctors who undertake home visits 
  • To liaise with other agencies on behalf of the Doctors as and when directed, for example, arranging patient transport
  • To record and relay messages to other members of the Health Care Team ensuring that urgent priorities are recognised
  • To undertake processing of confidential medical correspondence as and when necessary, at all times maintaining the strictest confidentiality
  • To undertake the duties of Front Desk Co-ordinator as and when directed to ensure that patient enquiries are dealt with efficiently and handled in an appropriate and friendly manner
  • To undertake such additional duties as may be necessary to ensure the efficient operation of the Patient Services Office and as directed by the Patient Services Manager

Your training plan

Customer Service Practitioner Level 2 Apprenticeship Standard:

  • This apprenticeship programme is delivered with a blended learning approach and includes a mixture of on-site tutor visits and online tutor-led sessions
  • All delivery is completed in the workplace and you will not need to attend any off-site training

GCSE or equivalent in:

  • Math's (grade 3/D)

About this company

Cornerways Medical Centre comprises of two surgeries, the main surgery situated at Gorley Road, Ringwood, and the Branch Surgery situated at 1 Pine Drive, St. Leonard’s (approximately three miles away). The post holder may be based at either site. The Practice has between in excess of 11,000 registered patients and with any Practice of this size we expect a number of those patients to have some form of disability. Receptionists will need to take these factors into account when dealing with our patients. Our Patient Services Co-ordinators operate a morning/afternoon/early evening shift pattern and it is a requirement of every Co-ordinator to ensure that an effective hand-over of responsibility is achieved between each shift.
