Work

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

What you’ll do at work

  • The post holder is one of the most important people to our residents and your contribution can have a huge impact on their quality of life.
  • You will be someone who naturally shows warmth and support to service users and their families; being a friend and companion is as important as providing the daily care that they need.
  • Day to day duties include assisting service users and Park House residents with personal care such as washing, bathing, dressing and undressing of clients, assisting with the administration of drugs and other medication, responding to client’s individual needs, adhering to the clients individual care plan, some basic food preparation and some domestic tasks.
  • The post holder will complete daily reports and ensure that the Senior/Manager is made aware of any concerns or problems.
  • The post holder will be responsible for the care of Park House residents and people living in the community with assessed needs, ensuring and recording that they are assisted to achieve the outcomes set out in their personalised care plan.
  • The post holder will work in accordance with Care Quality Commission standards, Health and Safety regulations and COSHH to ensure that a high standard of care is delivered.
  • The post holder will put the dignity of residents at the core of their work and be able to respond positively and with empathy if a client’s behaviour is challenging.

  •  Support individuals they are working with according to their personal care/support plan
  • Ask for help from an appropriate person when not confident or skilled in any aspect of their role
  • Provide individuals with information to enable them to have a choice about the way they are supported
  • Encourage individuals to participate in the way their care and support is delivered
  • Ensure the individual knows what they are agreeing to regarding the way in which they are supported
  • Contribute to the on-going development of care/support plans for the individual they support
  • Support individuals with cognitive, physical or sensory impairments
  • Ensure dignity is at the centre of all work with the individuals they support, their families, carers and advocates
  • Demonstrate all work is person centred, accommodating the individual’s needs, wishes and preferences
  • Demonstrate empathy (understanding and compassion) for individuals they support

Your training plan

Apprenticeship Standard is Level 2 Adult Care worker.

You will be required to attend weekly online sessions as part of your apprenticeship training. You will receive on and off-the-job training and support from an assessor and an Apprenticeship advisor.
