Work

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

What you’ll do at work

You will be working as an apprentice groom on a busy eventing yard with horses from young 3 year old horses, to 5* horses so lots of experience available!

The job is usual yard work including;

  • Feeding
  • Grooming
  • Tacking up
  • Turning out/ bringing in
  • Mucking out
  • (learning to) Manage and prepare event horses for competition.
  • Some riding and competition grooming depending on experience level.

During the role the apprentice will be supported to develop in all areas and the employer is happy to work with you in areas you are particularly interested in.

You will also receive regular training from an equine vet and BHSI Stage 5 Performance coach.

You will be working towards the Equine Groom Level 2 apprenticeship.

All training will take place at your place of work, with your employer and supported by Haddon Training. This will be a mixture of face-to-face and online delivery.

GCSE in:

  • English (grade 4)
  • Maths (grade 4)

Let the company know about other relevant qualifications and industry experience you have. They can adjust the apprenticeship to reflect what you already know.

Other requirements

Please consider that there is no accommodation available on site, so you must be able to reliably make your way to the location each day, including weekend days. This work requires working in all weathers outdoors also, so please be prepared for this.

For the right candidate, there may be opportunities to progress into more senior roles within the yard or a higher level apprenticeship.
