Summary

Meaning “continuous improvement” in Japanese, Kaizen is the practice of refining processes to improve quality, reduce costs and add value. On this apprenticeship, you will develop specialist skills, including design and manufacture of “low cost automation” as well as maintenance of facilities for both quality improvements and cost/time savings.

Work

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

What you’ll do at work

  • You will split your time between college learning and working within our world-class manufacturing plant.
  • As part of the Kaizen team, you will work with Nissan teams across Production, Engineering and Maintenance, using your skills, knowledge and creativity to make vital improvements to the production environment.
  • From simple repairs of the existing facilities to the development of new ideas, you see your work brought to life through the continuous improvement of the production cycle.
  • At college, you will learn the skills and theory you need for your role and onward specialist career in manufacturing, including correct use of tooling and equipment, usage of machinery and lean methodology such as 5s and Kaizen tools.
  • Working in our technically-advanced and innovative environment, you will develop lean manufacturing knowledge and skills, becoming able to perform specialist tasks in accordance with standard operating procedures (SOPs) and adhering to our safe working policies and procedures. You’ll also acquire the skills and knowledge required to work as a member of the team responsible for maintaining the facilities and automotive tooling here at Nissan.
