Summary

Drapers' Pyrgo Priory School, part of Drapers' Multi-Academy Trust, are looking to recruit a Teaching Assistant apprentice to help and support learning in the classroom and beyond. This is an exciting opportunity for someone wishing to progress further into a permanent Teaching Assistant role after successful completion of the apprenticeship.

Please note the above salary will be pro-rated as the apprentice will be working term time only. Therefore the actual salary for this apprenticeship vacancy is £ 8,872.50

Work

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

What you’ll do at work

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Establish productive working relationships with pupils, acting as a role model and setting high expectations.
  • Promote inclusion of and highest aspirations for all pupils in the school.
  • Plan, lead and facilitate small group teaching.
  • Encourage pupils to interact with others and engage independently in activities led by the teacher.
  • Contribute to discussions about the progress of individual pupils, recording observations and reporting any uncharacteristic behaviour patterns promptly to the class teacher.
  • Be responsible for first aid (after training) in the event of accident or injury and complete documentation as required.
  • Provide feedback to pupils in relation to progress and achievement under the guidance of the teacher.
  • Supervise and provide specific support for pupils, including those with Special Educational Needs, ensuring their safety and access to learning activities.
  • Assist in creating materials for curriculum delivery and working walls.
  • Promote positive values, attitudes and well-ordered self-disciplined behaviour, dealing promptly with incidents in line with established policy and encourage children to take responsibility for their own behaviour.

Support the care and welfare of pupils including dressing for different activities and intimate care where needed.

Other support:

  • Undertake playground duties, engaging with pupils and supporting them at playtime and lunchtime.
  • Ensure that classroom stock is maintained and kept tidy and that resources are readily available.
  • Attend regular meetings and undertake training and development relevant to the post and in line with school priorities.
  • Carry out general administrative tasks including photocopying, laminating, filing and recording.
  • Work as part of a team, liaising with staff, pupils, parents, carers and governors.
  • Comply with policies and procedures in relation to child protection, health and safety, security, confidentiality and data protection, reporting all concerns in a timely fashion.
  • Demonstrate a flexible approach and undertake any other professional duties as set down in the school’s pay and conditions of service document and as directed by the principal.

Essential qualifications

GCSE in:

  • English (grade Grade 4 - 9 (A* - C))
  • Maths (grade Grade 4 - 9 (A* - C))

Other requirements

Part of your role will be to supervise at lunchtime outside in all weathers, appropriate clothing and footwear is advised. The school is closest to bus routes. The most local train station is Harold Wood which is a bus ride away from the school.

After this apprenticeship

A permanent Teaching Assistant role could be offered upon successful completion of the apprenticeship (depending upon the needs of the school at that time) with the option to progress to further qualifications with specialism, i.e. Speech and Language, Curriculum subjects.
