Summary

You will work as an Inclusion Support Assistant within our individual needs team, you will have the chance to develop your skills in scaffolding learning and supporting the holistic needs of students. The role offers a unique opportunity to support students with diverse learning needs, helping them to thrive academically, socially and emotionally.

You will be contracted for 32.5 hours per week for 39.2 working weeks, which is term time only. Start time is 08.45, finish time is 15.45. This is a fixed-term contract until you have completed your apprenticeship.

Work

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

What you’ll do at work

Your typical working day will involve;

  • Supporting students with individual needs in their mainstream lessons 
  • Working with a small group of assigned key students, checking in with them during morning registration 
  • Conduct "walk and talks" to better understand key student's emotional needs 
  • Implement the appropriate reasonable adjustment to ensure them to access their learning
  • As part of the role you will follow school procedures such as; recording interactions, escalating issues, reporting safeguarding concerns etc

  • Comply with legislation, guidance, and procedures for Prevent, safeguarding and health & safety.
  • Support the well-being and mental health of learners.
  • Observe, record, and report on learners in line with organisational procedures.
  • Apply methods of formative assessment.
  • Use up to date technology safely, to support learning.
  • Encourage safe use of technology by learners.
  • Adapt teaching strategies to support all learners (for example, scaffolding, open questioning).
  • Identify and respond to pastoral and academic behaviours in learners.
  • Provide feedback to learners.

Your training plan

As part of your apprenticeship, you will have dedicated off-the-job time to focus on your studies and receive tailored mentoring from experienced practitioners within the school, helping you to develop as a professional. 

More training information

You will attend 6-weekly on-campus training days at college (college transport is available) spending time with other apprentices and completing activities. 

You will be assigned a college Instructor-Mentor who will visit you in the workplace to conduct observations, professional discussions and guide you through your apprenticeship.

Essential qualifications

GCSE in:

  • English (grade 4/C or above)
  • Maths (grade 4/C or above)
