Mott Macdonald are actively recruiting for individuals interested in joining us as a Building Services Apprentice, working on some of the largest and most exciting projects across the UK. We are keen to attract those with a passion for engineering, attention to detail and technical skills to help our projects teams shape the future.

Work
As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.
What you’ll do at work
- Create detailed plans, diagrams, drawings and other documentation
- Use CAD and software programme to create plans and design new systems
- Utilise and develop Building Information Modelling (BIM) to coordinate systems
- Design equipment for use on-site, as and when required
- Attend and contribute to meetings internally and externally with clients
- Ensure all systems adhere to health and safety requirements
- Be able to work flexibly and manage your workload
- Have a good attention to detail, our clients demand high-quality outputs
- Develop designs for engineering services which make buildings a comfortable place to be
- Utilise discipline-specific software to aid design development
- Utilise 3D drawing software to prepare models and drawings of your design
- Assist in advising on optimal energy usage and methods to reduce the environmental impact of the building or structure
- Visit sites to inspect works designed by Mott Macdonald
- Work alongside other professionals in the built environment, such as engineers, surveyors and architects, as a joined-up team to produce building designs
- Assist in producing energy efficient green buildings and the services which make them comfortable

Course contents
- Apply appropriate building services engineering principles, techniques, and methods, including mathematical, scientific, and technical know-how, to building services engineering and the construction or manufacturing process
- Apply key principles, techniques and methods of data and technical information collection, analysis and evaluation to support the delivery of building services engineering models (such as Building Information Modelling), designs, and technical solutions
- Operate computer-based software packages, such as Computer Aided Design (CAD) or modelling software (Revit) to produce and present technical information and documentation with relevant conventions and engineering terminology
- Apply statutory health, safety and welfare policies, procedures, and regulations in the building services engineering environment, using risk management processes, procedures, and documentation
- Support and contribute to the production or modification of building services engineering technical solutions in accordance with relevant industry standards, procedures, codes of practice, regulations, and legislation, such as the Building Safety legislation.
- Apply principles of sustainable development, including those relating to United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDG), environmental policies and legislations in building services engineering projects, recognising the need to reduce carbon use, lower emissions, and wider sustainability
- Plan, carry out and manage own work in line with quality assurance systems and processes, recognising the wider implications to customer needs, and within cost and resource limitations
- Consider equality, diversity, and inclusion in the delivery of building services engineering projects
- Apply document control processes and procedures using the approved processes, maintaining quality compliance when creating or amending engineering documentation
- Communicate using appropriate methods for the audience, and incorporate relevant and appropriate terms, standards, and data
- Apply ethical principles to building services engineering projects, including the secure use of data and information
- Plan, undertake and review their own professional competence, regularly updating and reviewing their CPD to improve performance

Your training plan
- Building Services Engineering Technician level 3 standard which includes Level 4 qualification in Construction and Built Environment
- As an apprentice, you will be supported to attend college (London) through virtual / block or day release to achieve your Building Services Engineering qualification
- You will also be part of our internal 2 year 'develop your future' training programme and will receive regular support and training throughout your employment
- If applicable, we would also support you in applying for professional memberships
Requirements
Essential qualifications
GCSE or equivalent in:
- English (grade Grade 4 or C)
- Maths (grade Grade 4 or C)
Desirable qualifications
GCSE or equivalent in:
- 5 GCSE (grade Grade 5 or B)
