Monday, 8.30am to 4.30pm. Tuesday, 8.30am to 4.30pm during the first term, then 8.30am - 3.15pm. Wednesday, 8.30am to 3.15pm. Thursday, 8.30am to 4.30pm. Friday, 8.30am to 4.30pm. Total of 36.25 hours in first term, then 35 hours.

Work

As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.

What you’ll do at work

  • Maintain a purposeful, orderly and supportive environment, in accordance with lesson plans and assist with the display of pupils’ work
  • Use given strategies, in liaison with the teacher and under there guidance, to support pupils to achieve their outcomes
  • Supporting the care needs and well-being of pupils throughout the school day
  • Assist with the planning of learning opportunities
  • Monitor pupils’ responses to learning opportunities and accurately record achievement/progress as directed
  • Provide detailed and regular feedback to teachers on pupils, progress, barriers to learning, emotional regulation etc.
  • Promote positive values, attitudes and good pupil behaviour, dealing promptly with behaviours that challenge in line with established policy and encourage/promote reflective practice at all times
  • Establish constructive relationships with parents/carers
  • Provide clerical/administrative support e.g. photocopying, typing, filing, money, administer coursework etc.
  • The role would suit people who wish to work in a vibrant and challenging SEND environment

  • Use up to date technology safely, to support learning.
  • Encourage safe use of technology by learners.
  • Adapt teaching strategies to support all learners (for example, scaffolding, open questioning).
  • Identify and respond to pastoral and academic behaviours in learners.
  • Provide feedback to learners.

Your training plan

  • Teaching Assistant Level 3 Apprenticeship Standard
  • 1-1 sessions with assessor coach in the workplace
  • Weekly off the job training

Desirable qualifications

GCSE or equivalent in:

  • English (grade 4)
  • Maths (grade 4)
